Masons Yorkshire Gin Distillery was founded in 2013, by husband and wife team Karl and Catherine Mason. Karl, a former managing director of a publishing company, had always been a Gin lover, and had founded the blog Gin and Tonic Friday.
With his extensive Gin knowledge, he and his wife decided to create something that was exciting and new to combat all of the generic Gins on the market. They realised that all the existing distilleries in Yorkshire had been shut down, and so purchased their own land in Bedale in North Yorkshire, and set it up from scratch.
The first bottle of Masons Yorkshire Gin was distilled in partnership with the English Spirit Company, while waiting for the finishing touches to be put to their own ‘home’. Today, Masons Yorkshire Gin is distilled in one of two copper alembic stills, named ‘Steve’ and ‘Leftie’. Each produces 200-liter batches, and each bottle is marked with the batch and bottle number.
