Wow. This $45 whiskey belongs in every single collection. As far as I have researched, it is a real Japanese whiskey distilled in Japan, yet its flavors demonstrate mastery in international whiskey. Oak and caramel seamlessly blend with fruity honey, creating a whiskey that is neither bourbon, nor scotch, but rather an astounding Japanese profile.
Fits what you expect from an easy to drink, smooth and slightly light Japanese whisky but will a bit more smoke finish. Very nice, and a great addition to a collection.
My current personal favorite whisky; it's incredibly smooth and leads with fruity floral notes on the scent, while having a complex flavor between more sweet honey and toffee flavors and the more fruity finish imparted by the port, wine, and sherry barrels used in its aging. Would highly recommend.
My first Japanese whisky experience. Tastes like a blended scotch with a very short, dry finish. Some sherry sweetness. Not a bad drink, just not my preference. Good experience.
The nose is very strong and dark, like plums, peat, and sherry. The flavor is, by contrast, quite light and fruity. There is a distinct sweetness to it, and a pleasant peat after flavor. Definitely one of my favorite drams, especially because of the stark contrast between the aroma and flavor.
It had great potential but it comes off as confused as to where it's going. It's all over the board and doesn't follow a nice linear transition between flavors.
It's a $30 bottle of whiskey. It's good to have around for drunk/cheap friends or to mix with Coke. You get what you pay for but, as far as $30 bottles go, it's pretty good.
This was probably the worst whiskey I've ever tasted in my entire life. It is completely unpalatable. The taste is completely on describable. It's a mixture between turpentine and linseed oil.
Not sure why it says 1.6 on the rating. Unfortunately I ordered this prior to Flaviar. This Japanese is very different. At 80 proof this whiskey starts off very slow, not much happening at beginning, but leaves you with a great vanilla/honey hit on the palate with a small oak hit. Great start off to Japanese whiskey, try this first in your sampling and follow with a stronger Japanese whiskey and you'll gain a true appreciation for their craft. More a 6 on my scale.
