A beautiful, fruit-forward Highland Single Malt from Gordon & MacPhail.

Dufftown is the Highland hamlet that calls itself the “Whisky Capital of the World.” This little town of less than 1700 people is home to six prominent distilleries — including Mortlach. Founded in 1823 by James Findlater, Mortlach became the first “legal” distillery in Dufftown. The history of Mortlach is an honorable one of tradition, innovation, and engineering — including the famous “2.81” distillation method using multiple still types. Their finely crafted spirits are a core component of the most premium Johnnie Walker blends — so much so that Johnnie Walker bought the distillery in 1923.

Most of Mortlach’s production gets pulled into the blends. But Gordon & MacPhail — the famous independent bottlers — regularly get their hands on casks worth drinking to issue special releases. And Mortlach Maltman 15 Year Old is one of the best. It’s a true Mortlach Single Malt aged a full fifteen years in a combination of first-fill and re-fill Sherry casks and bottled at a perfect 46% ABV. It’s another beautiful example of Highland Single Malt with impeccable credentials.

Dog Dogson's
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Golden sunset.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Rancio, leather, crisp apple, and warm barley fill the nose.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens complex from the start with apple-spice muffins, sweet sultanas, fresh cut exotic fruits, and a dash of black pepper.

The finish is nice and long with savory fruits and deep woodland tones.
