When MM decided to make their first blend, they wanted to heighten their vanilla and caramel notes. They did that by finishing the Straight Bourbon (70% Corn, 16% Wheat, 14% Malted Barley) in barrels enriched with SE4 and PR5 oak staves. The staves are a marriage of virgin French oak and toasted American oak, respectively. The final no-age-statement concoction (bottled at 110.8 Proof) champions the two flavors in addition to cinnamon apple, oak, leather, and spices. This Bourbon is carefully made and unique as hell.

guest,
Very bland for a limited release and what I’ve come to expect from Makers

Ashok,
I love normal makers mark and thought I would love this as well. It was more powerful than I was expecting. I knew coming in the caramel and vanilla would be upfront but I guess I wasn't expecting the wood finish taste. Also, lesson learned on price. Flaviar was listing it in its vault for $140 and I bought 2 bottles. I felt a little gouged when I saw the $60 recommended price online. I realize the wood finishing series is a little tough to find but found the price way high for the quality of this bottle. My rating is strictly based on the taste and not being gouged though.

Joshua,
An excellent spirit. Seemed to have enhanced vanilla and caramel flavors over regular MM (may have been the high proof). Strong wood finish that contrasted with the vanilla and caramel. Did not get the heat that typically comes with such a high proof whisky, very smooth. I drank it neat. Overall, an excellent whisky. I found this at a local liquor store for $69.99. It was nice to find a special release at near MSRP instead of being gouged as is typically the case these days.

Jeff,
Exceptional sweetness for the high proof.
