A story of a great rock band, well-crafted Single Malt, a unique cask set-up, and The Winds of Change.

We shouldn’t surprised that a Single Malt Whisky could be made well in Sweden. After all, Sweden sits at about the same latitude as Scotland and is surrounded by the same North Sea. I guess we should really be asking what took them so long to get around to it? Mackmyra has been tinkering with their malt-distillery since 1999, but up until a few years ago all their product was used in side beverages, blends, and flavored drinks until they got it right. They started releasing their Single Malts in 2008. Most of their Spirits are aged in new, Swedish oak placed 50 meters underground in an abandoned mineshaft.

If you listened to hard rock music in the 1970s and 1980s you already know the band The Scorpions. They are one of the most influential bands in the genre and have a long string of hits. Mackmyra Scorpions Single Malt Whisky is a collaboration between the band and the Mackmyra Distillery. The base Spirits is aged in a combination of ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks. Then — in a tribute to the band’s German heritage — it is finished in casks used to mature sweet German Cherry Wine.

What does Mackmyra Scorpions taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Mackmyra Scorpions and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Light Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
It’s very aromatic with hints of wood spice, salted caramels, and lots of tart berry notes.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the tongue you’ll find the flavors of ripe red fruits, granola, dried herbs, and toasted oak.

The finish is medium-length, warming, and a bit tangy.
