The Macallan classic Single Malt aged in four different cask types for a lighter, fruit-forward profile.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the "Big 3" Single Malts in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their "Speyside" designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the "official" boundaries doesn’t mean Whisky-lovers have to pay any attention.

Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a very broad range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge global following.

When you reach the pinnacle of Single Malt expressions like The Macallan has, you are liberated to explore dozens of special releases and Single Malt experiments. The Quest Collection is all about special combinations of casks — a quest for wood. There are four different Single Malts in the collection.

The Macallan Quest is the dram that launched the range. The classic Single Malt in aged in four different cask types — ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry made from American and European oak, and refill Sherry hogsheads. It has a lighter, almost citrus profile. The Quest Collection is normally only available in the travel retail market, so grab a bottle while you can.

Smartass Corner:
The word "Quest" in the name refers to the journey — a search for the best available casks.

What does The Macallan Quest taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in The Macallan Quest and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Dog Dogson's
Scotch Whisky is almost never aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation, while many times ageing process and flavor finishing is concluded in various wine casks, such as sherry or port.
