The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. And The Macallan has been schooling other Whiskies ever since. Their innovations and achievements are far too numerous to list here—including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a wide and deep range of single-malt Whiskies and every single one of them is as good as gold.

Speaking of quality, have you tried the Macallan Edition No.2? The Edition series consists of limited edition bottles, which have been matured in a variety of casks. The bottle at hand is the second expression in the series and originates from a creative collaboration between Macallan and the restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, twice voted the best restaurant in the world. Seeing that many consider Macallan the best Whisky in the world, this just might be a match made in heaven.

Bob Dalgarno, Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker and the three Roca brothers have joined forces to combine their intricate knowledge on flavors and aromas in a single Spirit. Each of them handpicked a cask from different bodegas in Spain, for the Whisky to mature prior to blending. The result is a complex combination of flavors that reflects each of their distinctive personalities, but at the same time amazes with its incredible balance and harmony. This Whisky might be no. 2 in the series, but when it comes to quality and character – it’s second to none.

The Macallan Speyside estate is the only distillery ground in Scotland where you can fish for atlantic salmon. It sits right on the River Spey and from February to September is the perfect location for some salmon fishing.
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
First-class Whiskies are taxed not only by the state but also by the angels. This refers to the 4% of Whisky that evaporates from the barrels every year, a phenomenon known as the angel’s share.
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
