Flavor profile as deep as Loch Ness.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the Big 3 distilleries in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their Speyside designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the official boundaries doesn’t mean Whisky-lovers have to pay any attention. Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a wide and deep range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge following.

The good folks at The Macallan just keep on tinkering in the rick-houses. They continually come up with new twists and tweaks to wring out special flavor profiles and special editions. The latest range in their portfolio is the Edition Series, and The Macallan No.1 is the debut dram for this new line.

The Macallan was historically famous for their use of Sherry cask, and No.1 fits the category. But this special edition uses 8 different types of Sherry casks to develop a richer, more balanced profile. And to keep things real, they have bottled it up at 48% ABV, a few lovely points higher than their core Whisky so every drop pops with added flavor.

Smartass Corner:
The Big 3 distilleries in Scotland are #1 Glenlivet, #2 Macallan, and #3 Glenfiddich. Together, they produce nearly 20 million bottles of Whisky per year — the vast majority of which is used in their respective Single Malt offerings.

Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
Is Scotch always Scottish? What do you think? Yes. The answer is yes.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
Whisky distilling goes way back to 1494 when the first recorded batch was made by a posse of monks who acquired about 60 gallons of barley and decided to turn it into "aqua vitae". They created the first 1,500 bottles of Scotch in History.
