Flavor profile as deep as Loch Ness.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the Big 3 distilleries in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their Speyside designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the official boundaries doesn’t mean Whisky-lovers have to pay any attention. Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a wide and deep range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge following.

The good folks at The Macallan just keep on tinkering in the rick-houses. They continually come up with new twists and tweaks to wring out special flavor profiles and special editions. The latest range in their portfolio is the Edition Series, and The Macallan No.1 is the debut dram for this new line.

The Macallan was historically famous for their use of Sherry cask, and No.1 fits the category. But this special edition uses 8 different types of Sherry casks to develop a richer, more balanced profile. And to keep things real, they have bottled it up at 48% ABV, a few lovely points higher than their core Whisky so every drop pops with added flavor.

Smartass Corner:
The Big 3 distilleries in Scotland are #1 Glenlivet, #2 Macallan, and #3 Glenfiddich. Together, they produce nearly 20 million bottles of Whisky per year — the vast majority of which is used in their respective Single Malt offerings.

What does The Macallan Edition No.1 taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in The Macallan Edition No.1 and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Scotch Whisky is almost never aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation, while many times ageing process and flavor finishing is concluded in various wine casks, such as sherry or port.

Ratings & Reviews
I heard this was great, but it was a ~$100 bottle when it was originally released. You can get a great limited edition Macallan by just buying the newest release. They are on #5 it is ~$100 and it is great. I have had #2 through #5 and none disappoint. If you really want to spend $1500 on Macallan, get 4-5 bottles or Macallan Rare cask at about $320 a bottle.
Sweet and spicy with a hint of smoke.
Smooth and refined.
The best drink I ever had in life. Try the 18 years old for best taste with tonic water.
Very good smooth taste
I really liked this bottle, I even gifted one for a friend's retirement.
