Much more than just your classic cut.

The story of Macallan starts with Alexander Reid - a really cool schoolteacher and a barley farmer on the side. Living in the hinterlands of northern Speyside, he decided to do the smart thing and capitalize on the newly passed Scottish Excise Act. You know, the one that legalized the distilling of Whisky in return for a license fee of £10. Starting his own little Macallan Distillery in 1824, he produced Whisky out of two humble pot stills. Well, from two little pot stills to one of the largest and most successful Single Malt Distillers in Scotland. One small step for Alexander Reid, and you know the rest that follows. When asked about the recipe for their success, the people behind Macallan like to highlight the importance of their six pillars: The Spiritual home, the tiniest copper stills on Speyside, the finest cut, exceptional oak casks, natural color, and peerless Spirit. Being such victims of success, they surely must know what they’re talking about.

The Macallan Classic Cut Limited 2022 Edition only confirms their ability to seek out extraordinary and unique characters and bring them forth in an impressive sensory experience. Bottled at 52.5% ABV, released with limited availability, and matured in a unique combination of American and European sherry-seasoned oak, this memorable Whisky bristles with fresh grapefruit aromas, complemented by the complex duality of wood types.

The Macallan Speyside estate is the only distillery ground in Scotland where you can fish for atlantic salmon. It sits right on the River Spey and from February to September is the perfect location for some salmon fishing.
Macallan is a popular choice among the younger Whisky drinking crowd and they do a lot of marketing activities to keep in touch with them. In 2016, they created a Facebook chatbot that answered questions about the brand and its Whiskies.
It's unknown where the Macallan name comes from, but there are a few possibilities circling around. The most popular one is that it comes from two words in the Gallic language. “Magh” which refers to a fertile piece of ground and “Eilean” which curiously enough means, “of Saint Fillans.” Over time “Magh Eilean” became Anglicised as Macallan.
