The Macallan. No introduction needed. That’s because this Speyside distillery’s Whisky is highly sought after, with the price of its vintage expressions going through the roof. Its Sherry-soaked soul and the distillery’s strict adherence to traditional production are just some of the reasons the Macallan name is legendary in the Scotch world.

This 21-year-old baby was aged both in Bourbon and Sherry cask and bottled at 43%... The best Macallan has to offer in a bottle.

Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
Is Scotch always Scottish? What do you think? Yes. The answer is yes.
It's unknown where the Macallan name comes from, but there are a few possibilities circling around. The most popular one is that it comes from two words in the Gallic language. “Magh” which refers to a fertile piece of ground and “Eilean” which curiously enough means, “of Saint Fillans.” Over time “Magh Eilean” became Anglicised as Macallan.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
The Macallan Speyside estate is the only distillery ground in Scotland where you can fish for atlantic salmon. It sits right on the River Spey and from February to September is the perfect location for some salmon fishing.
