Chers amis, this one goes out for you. Only the real ones, though.

Laphroaig distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston and is located in Port Ellen, Isle of Islay. Although Laphroaig isn't allowed to put the prefix ‘Royal’ in its name (yet), rumour has it his royal princeness Charles of Wales is a fan of the ‘L’ Whisky.

The 15-year-old is reportedly the prince's favorite Scotch. For a long while, there’s been a frenzy for Laphroaig’s Scotch, especially those less-available expressions.

How do you show your friends you care about them? Do you send them a nice text or make them a tasty dinner? Well, Laphroaig makes them a special limited edition Malt every year.

In 2021, Distillery Manager John Campbell crafted Laphroaig Càirdeas 2021 Edition Pedro Ximenez Casks Single Malt Scotch Whisky for the Friends of Laphroaig and just you know, friends and friendship in general. (Càirdeas means friendship in Gaelic) He wanted something complex for his buddies, so he triple-matured it in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, quarter casks, and European oak hogsheads that used to held PX sherry.

Bottled at cask strength, only the realest friends can handle the abundance of true and rich flavors of nuts, toffee, and cinnamon.

Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
