Member Reviews and Ratings of Kurayoshi 12 Year Old Pure Malt Whisky
smooth, coffee, caramel and complex
This is a Japanese Whisky that makes me want to explore these more. I really liked the flavor and it wasn't overwhelming like too many others. Side note - this was a Christmas gift from Joel in 2020.
The first taste is a bit sharp, then it gets more mellow. There is coffee, caramel, chocolate and raisins. The aftertaste is soft. Elegant and accessible, a nice balance.
Nice caramel on the front, with a burn
Raisiny, rich, clean and warming. Vibrant flavors from front to finish.
Very drinkable! Smooth and mild, quite sweet. Could drink a lot of this...
First two words out of my mouth were "ooo dangerous". Definitely a nice whiskey here.
Smooth and easy to drink. Sweet, caramel, mineral and light peat. My favourite Japanese whiskey.
Light golden dram from Japan again. Might prefer a bit darker colour myself, but this is fine. Nose has a hint of vinegar somehow. Interesting, exciting, pear, apples? Apple cider?
Surprisingly acidic taste. Still getting that vinegar and I really like it. I think it's the mineral from the flavour wheel. I rather quite like this but my first impression is that hoooly moly this is nowhere near worth the price for me. Very happy I got this in a tasting set instead of buying a bottle.
This pure malt reminds me a lot of the flavor profile of Johnny Walker Green Label which is also a malt blend. I do like both but marked this lower since this is going for about twice the price.
Nice and smooth with caramel and vanilla upfront and a nice smokiness on the finish.
A bit too sweet. Strong Caramel + cherry notes... otherwise it's smooth and nice
Very smooth with a strong "bite" finish
Very smooth, a nice lite Smokey finish
Smooth easy whiskey, but not worth the pricetag
Nice nose. Sweet and a bit of spice.
Pretty solid bottle right here. As a scotch drinker primarily, I figured I’d dip into the Japanese whisky’s for a bit. So far, this has been one of my favorites. Clean but with a bit of heat and sweetness.
If you said this was a scotch, I would be impressed. Not the biggest fan of Japanese whiskey, but this definitely had some flavors to peak my interest. Not sold, but definitely worth a try.
Little caramel, vanilla, and a little fruit on the nose. Peat, minerals and slight nutty flavor with the fruit lingering on the taste.
Pear. Nut. Mizunara shows perfectly the sweet parts. Wide and fresh. Not to peaty. Love it. 12yo!
Big pear nose. Very layered and complex palate.
Very smooth. Good nutty flavor and not very peaty.
Refined yet creative
Higher flavor than a lot of japanese whiskey I've had. Pretty standard flavors though, inoffensive, and tasty. Nothing to write home about though.
Great smell, smooth vanilla, and balanced flavor. Clear color and silk. Not smokey, I add a little water with a gentleman's ice, taste good. love it
Vanilla. Hint of cherry and peat. Ginger.
It is an outstanding, rich, Japanese Pure Malt Whisky with an aromatic birth; while a rich life that lead to a smooth & delicate death with notes of chocolate, minerals & peat.
Smooth and sweet with notes of vanilla and caramel. Drinks/tastes like a macallan
Initial nosing is pleasant with bits of pear, oak and malt. Let it sit and open up a bit. Tasting reveals pear, raisin, some chocolate and green apple. If there is smoke it didn’t come through. Very enjoyable. Would certainly add it to the collection.
Good whiskey but priced a little high. I typically drink neat but prefer this one with ice
This is quite special. Love the oak up front, and the complexity and finish are very impressive. Follows Scotch profile but is really clean and precise. Very enjoyable and drinks 2x the price.
It has the whiskey bit to it but a really good flavor with a smooth finish.
Took this to a tasting party and it was a huge favorite. Very good forward flavors. If you throw rocks it might open it up a bit too much so maybe try it neat. Very smooth.
