Member Reviews and Ratings of Kura Pure Malt Whisky Rum Cask Finish
Very strong smoky, peaty wood odor and flavor. Smooth and unique. I can't figure out whether I love or hate the strong flavor. But I'm rating high because of its uniqueness
Nice tang of rum, clean flavour, bit of sugar and spicy
Tastes like an Islay distillery on a Caribbean vacation. Medicinal peaty flavors combined with a sugary and spicy finish.
Tried this in a taster box and it is unlike anything I've ever tasted.
As someone who loves bothe whisky and rum, this was perfect.
Not a huge fan of the peaty whisky but this was extremely smooth. . Charred after taste lingers around. If you like that smokey flavor then try it out
Peaty and smoky, nice but not quite one to return to.
Nice light peaty flavor, more like a nice Islay scotch.
A strange mix of heavy peat and sweetness (from the rum casks?). I'm not a huge fan of heavily peated whiskies but this surprised me - the peat is tempered by the other elements so its not overpowering. An intriguing drink.
Wasn't that keen on first mouthful but actually by the final sip I was left wanting more. Definitely a slow build with the flavour, but I like it.
Extremely light colour. Had another whisky earlier that was very light in colour but high in taste, we'll see how this one is. Strong nose, smoke obviously, but maybe not much else, something like sour grapes?
Taste is nice. Sharpish, complex. The smoke is still there, no artificial edge to it. Nothing to write home about. Somehow not impressed at all.
Beautiful Crossover. Peaty, surprisingly spicy, pure malt is taken over by the rum barrels.
Peaty like an Islay but tamed in other areas. Not much bite on the finish. Nice drink.
I didn't like this one at all. Tastes like a medicine cabinet mishap.
Super peaty and sweet at nose but still don't know what exactly it is. Smooth palate but quite spicy finish. Very distinctive whiskey.
Deliciously smoky and spicy. More like scotch, but I am ok with that!
Nice hit of vanilla upfront with a bit of spiciness on the finish.
Spicy finish that lingers.
Nice touch of peat, salt and a bit of sweetness. Lacks a bit of depth
Wonderful smell, easy on the palate, and lots of peat!
Rather sweet from the start. Caramely and smooth with a smokey fruityness. Earthy aftertaste.
Super peaty! Not as complex as you would think having a rum cask finish. It’s great for the aromatics, but doesn’t finish with the taste.
I really enjoyed this, very balanced, lots of great flavors but nothing overpowering. Very subtle and sophisticated. The smell was light with honey and apricots that gave way to slight toast smell. Taste upfront was smoke and peat but not too heavy. The end is a little spicy and nutty.
Lovely whiskey. Highly recommend
Great nose but pray dominates palate
Either I don’t like a real peaty drink or this just isn’t very good. First one I’ve thrown out after one sip.
Peaty in style
Happily drinking this while playing games with the kids. Peat and smoke weren’t overpowering, strong but I like that. Went down quickly.
Tasty for any peaty whiskey. Blast of peat smoke, then settles to a sweet, complex finish. Very good.
Light. Peaty. Whiff of smoke and spice. Light smoke lingers.
Nice smooth whiskey
It is an outstanding, balanced, 'Japanese Blended Whisky with a forest birth; while a balanced life that leads to a long peaty & toasty finish with notes of pepper.
Smokey, more towards mezcal, bright. Wakes you up. Drink it before writing on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
Light peat with a subtle sweetness.
Not to my taste. It was too smokey. Drinkers who like the smoke, will love this. It has a very smooth finish.
Nosing reveals some “earthiness” with peat, citrus, malt and smoke.
Let it settle in your mouth for a bit to reveal a bit of smoke, peat, a splash of lemon/honey, malt, citrus and oak. A nice whisky for sipping.
