A clear Añejo Tequila aged in French White Wine barrels and oxygenated in greek amphora.

Richard Betts is up to his old tricks — creating premium Spirits, specifically Tequilas. He has the taste buds for the job. He was the youngest person ever to pass the super-duper “Court of Master Sommeliers” exam. And after working in the Wine and hospitality industry he founded Sombra Tequila and Astral Tequila brands — which is sold, doing very well for himself int he process. And he has taken those funds and reapplied them to a new Tequila venture — Komos. The brand sits under his Casa Komos Brands Group )CKBG), so we think he’s got more great stuff coming our way.

Normally, one of the ways you tell if a Spirit has been aged in wood is by the color. Some companies use artificial colors to give the impression that the drink in the glass is a bit older than it actually is. This is the way things are done in the Spirits business.

Komos Tequila Añejo Cristalino messes with this paradigm. It is a 100% pure, Weber blue agave Tequila. And instead of agin in ex-Bourbon casks like everybody else, they age their Tequila in French White Wine barrels for a full twelve months — and that’s pretty unique right there. But then they slowly drip the aged Tequila through a charcoal-filled column to — get this — make it smoother and remove all the color in the process. And THEN they put it is HUGE Grecian clay amphoras and roll them around to oxygenate the Spirit. Have you EVER heard of such a thing? Don’t you want to taste it?

Appearance / Color

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is surprisingly fruit-forward with notes of lime zest, grilled citrus, press succulents, and a hint of cilantro.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens with a velvet glove of a mouth-feel and interesting notes French florals — lavender and lilac — orange zest, mineral water, warmed herbs, and a hit of white pepper.

Finish
The finish is medium length and warming with a savory brightness at the end.
