Top reviews for Komasa Sakurajima Komikan Gin:

― Loved this. Very tropical tangerine and orange smell. Slightly sweet flavor. Balanced by juniper and a little spice.

― Didn't get much nose, but the citrus hits strongly on sipping, along with some pine/juniper. But very smooth, with a heavy mouthfeel that almost makes it like a liqueur. A bit of bark on the edge of the tongue as a finish. Very sippable. An ice cube brings out more of the other flavors, reducing the citrus. Ginfriendly hubby does like.

― Full disclosure, I am not historically a gin drinker. Most of my life I found the juniper overwhelming and off-putting, which meant I had minimal exposure and as consequence didn't try very many of them. In the last year I sampled a few that I didn't immediately dislike, and made a couple of cocktails I actually quite enjoyed, so when my benefits refilled I figured I would give a tasting box a try. My mother, on the other hand, is a gin drinker but is mostly loyal to Tanqueray, so we did a tasting together. Both of us picked this as our favorite of the box. For a relatively high ABV, this is surprisingly delicate. Nose is all citrus peel on the first approach, followed by a distinct but not aggressive coriander. Palate is smooth and not overly sweet, with a muted presence of juniper. I would hesitate to use this in a cocktail; as delicate as it is I fear it would get lost. If anything I might add a small splash of soda and a twist of sweet citrus to complement the flavors already present.
