Knob Creek’s award-winning Rye Whiskey aged twice for more oak-forward flavor.

Knob Creek is one of the special “small batch” brands of Beam-Suntory. Along with its sister labels — Booker’s, Baker’s, and Basil Hayden’s — it’s tailored to the more discriminating Bourbon-lover (and that means YOU). The Knob Creek brand was first launched in 1992, and since then they have changed very little — remaining dedicated to reproducing a pre-Prohibition Bourbon style experience. They keep their line-up limited to a handful of core products and special releases and they do all of them right, winning awards and turning heads.

You’ve heard us say it time and time again… we love Knob Creek. Everything they produce is high quality and bottled strong, with an ABV powerful enough to teach a cocktail who’s boss. Well, Knob Creek launched their first Rye in 2012 and it’s been a HUGE success. So they’ve decided to build on that success in a very unique way. 2018 Knob Creek Twice Barreled Rye is not just “finished” in a seasoned barrel — it’s aged twice in a second, brand new, darkly-charred #4 oak cask. How many times have you seen that? And the result is a deeply colored, 100 proof Rye Whiskey with huge notes of oak, vanilla, and spice.

Kenneth
Kenneth,
It’s a beautiful rye that is silky smooth with a nice spicy and caramel touch.

Daniel
Daniel,
Not a lot of rye flavor, a lot of vanilla and sweetness to me. Quite delicious, but I would not think it was a rye if the bottle did not say it was. Very smooth, very good, but I did not get any of the spiciness I would expect from a rye. Maybe I should have expected it on the fact that it was twice barreled. Regardless, it is good, just not as spicy as I had expected.

Gage

Matthew
Matthew,
Color is bronze, good legs. Blind, I would think this a Bourbon. Vanilla, caramel, and oak, with just a hint of rye spice, and a decent amount of baking spices on the nose. May not smell like a traditional Rye, but smells good. Palate: Again, blind I would think high rye bourbon. Vanilla, caramel sweetness, Beam peanut, oak, and a background of rye spice. Not a classic Rye, but tastes good, so no significant complaints. Mouthfeel: Above average Finish: Linger of the Beam peanut and baking spices. Moderate length. Overall: Coherent flavor profile, signature Beam peanut, but not really a Rye by flavor profile. Still tastes really good though. If you want a true Rye, this isn't it. If you just want a solid drink, this is a great choice.

This whisky is way to strong for my palette but I’m sure others enjoy it more.

Surprised me. Beautiful oaked flavor finished by a nice, spicy rye. Very drinkable. Blend between a Woodford Double Oaked and a Bulleit Rye.

Derek
Derek,
I had no idea that a rye whiskey could have a sweet side until I tried this. Definitely a flavor profile like no other rye. Very deep and rich. I will miss this when the limited run is finished.

Erwin
Erwin,
My favorite rye yet. Not too spicy, smooth, wonderfully "oaky" and a unique way to age.

Christopher,
I've been on a rye kick the last couple of months, buying up and doing tastings at different bars of all the rye available. When this became available thru Flaviar, I had to get it. I have no regrets! Being "twice barreled", it has substantially eliminated a lot of the spicy rye notes, and replaced them with sweet, oaky, bourbon. It still has a rye flavor, just milder and perfect for neat sipping. Especially for the average whiskey drinker not familiar with rye. At 100 proof, it sneaks in a punch after a half glencairn glass. I highly recommend!
