They are calling it the most robust Kentucky Owl batch ever, and we agree.

The original Kentucky Owl Whiskey was made by Charles Mortimer Dedman in the late 1800s. After every drop of this "Wise Man’s Whiskey" in inventory was, ahem… "confiscated" by federal agents under mysterious circumstances at the start of Prohibition, the C.M. Dedman Distillery faded into history. But just a few years ago his great-great-grandson — Dixon Dedman — revived the brand, creating the Kentucky Owl Bourbons and Ryes as small batch, super-premium Spirit blends.

Kentucky Owl is developing a cult-like following of fans who wait eagerly for each release. And no wonder… these things are powerful examples of quality and passion for the Spirits. Kentucky Owl Batch 9 is the latest release and — according to Dixon Dedman himself — "… is the most robust Kentucky Owl batch I’ve ever created."

It’s crafted from four different sourced distillates with four different mash bills. One of the components is aged fifteen years, two are aged fourteen years, one twelve years, and a seven year-old makes up the rest. The resulting 10,314 bottles are bottled at a blistering 63.8% ABV, so we recommend serving it on the rocks.

Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Liquid Bronze

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aromas lean toward warm library tones — leather, warm wood, pipe tobacco, and cloves with a dash of fruit in the distance.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the thick, viscous palate the flavors shift dramatically to shortbread biscuits, white cornbread, dried cherries, charred oak, and a ginger-like spice.

The finish lingers for a long time with a cherry cordial note on the back palate.
Ratings & Reviews
I've only had a small dram so far, but the impression it made is huge. It comes on strong and the finish is numbing, literally. I found it to be the tobacco, oak, clove, cherry and ginger flavors to be most pronounced. The "spice" I picked up on is akin to eating raw ginger. At this price point I wouldn't call it a daily drinker. I had my dram neat, but think next time I may toss a rock in it to mellow it a bit
One of the best sourced bottles I’ve ever had.
High proof but I personally think you don’t need to dilute. I pick up cloves or other similar spices on the nose. A bite yes on yes but very good. Then oak followed by cherry. Complex and delicious!
An ass-kicker but in a good way. Complex and a river ride full of rapids. Was desperately looking for Batch 8 and "settled" on 9. I prefer complex sippers and this certainly qualifies.
Full of flavor. Definitely taste the cherry, oak, tobacco and more. Dang fine pour.
Is this better than GTS?
