Since 2008, Kavalan, named after the earliest tribe that inhabited Yi-Lan county, Taiwan, has looked to represent sincerity, honesty, and the spirit of step-by-step cultivation, with a passionate commitment to creating a series of premium Whiskies.
Being named Best in Class at the 2011 International Wine & Spirits Competition as well as winning 2013 gold from the Beverage Testing Institute (among others) only goes to show how brilliant it is that the Kavalan Concertmaster is available here today.
The Whisky was first matured in American Oak then transferred for a year to Port casks that previously held Ruby Port, Tawny Port and Vintage Port it results in a mellow, smooth and complex Whisky.
What does Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.
Very smooth, pleasant to drink but not overly complex
Anna,
Lovely and complex port flavour. Nose: vanilla, brown sugar, tobacco, Palate: Ripe plums, more brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper, Finish: Salted caramel and raisins.
Sophian,
After several stellar Solist bottles, I was convinced Kavalan is my Asian value-for-money distillery of choice (Japanese whiskies cost too much!). So I seeked out a possible daily go-to from Kavalan. Bought this and was sorely disappointed. Found it weak, lack of flavour, watery and just fell short of all expectations. However, do contextualise that with the fact that the Solist range are all cask strength!
Jennifer,
Pleasing texture, subtle notes of ____, honey, fruity aftertaste, let it coat and linger, afterfeel and aftertaste are where this one shines, a hot day's whiskey, Definite flavors of coconut.
Brett,
Really smooth. I was impressed and surprised with it. It’s a little sweeter than some other whiskeys but really solid.
Brandon,
Not kidding about dry. But only at first. Let it coat your tongue and savor. Then you can taste the fruit and vanilla. Gets smoother with each sip. Enjoy the sweet oaky smell as you drink it. Fun to try whiskey from the East.
Gary,
Seriously smooth. :)
Mark,
Nice and balanced. You can really taste the port cask finish.
Kathryn,
Super complex, yet subtle. Very soft nose, super smooth. Perfect for sipping on the back porch.
Kenneth,
My wife says, "Each sip is like a party in my mouth!" Let's hope so!
This is a great sipping whiskey for winter nights by the fire. Quite good.
Antti,
It is an outstanding, balanced, Single Malt Taiwanese Whisky with a complex birth, while a rich & dry life, leads to a quick & elegant death.
Kevin,
Not as smooth as expected from a port cask finished whisky.
Troy,
Really delightful. Rich aroma and a taste that develops with time. Very mild and easy to drink.
Corey,
This is a drinkable whiskey. I don’t think it’s great, tastes a bit immature. But its moderately smooth and has some flavor that pops at first but doesn’t linger.
Thomas,
I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Lots of caramel and oak on the nose. Hints of fruit that I just can't put my finger on. Smooth with just a slight bite. I recommend just a drop of some high quality spring water. I'll be adding this one to the wish list but ultimately it'll come down to price. I'd be willing to pay $60 to $70 but it'd be a stretch at anything above that.
Kevin,
Very nice tasting . Smooth going down and a great sipping whisky.
Sonali,
Very sweet aromatics. Strong flavors of fruit, vanilla, and caramel. Light and smooth body. Drinkable, but doesn't suit my tastes.
Deja,
Smooth.
Logan,
Fruit for days with an almost bitter aftertaste, but I’m a good way. Very different and rather enjoyable.
Michael,
Awesome flavors
Katherine,
Sweet with a smoke finish
Peter,
A heavy full flavored whisky. A good break from the rest. It's a great mixer w ginger ale.
Ryan,
At first sip I would have guessed this to be scotch. It was a heavy Smokey flavor with some sweetness. The next day after the bottle was opened it was a completely different taste it was less smoky and a little sweeter. Overall I do like it but it’s not one of my favorites.
guest,
Tropical fruit, hint of Pineapple, honey and finishes with nuts, spices
Mark,
Great whisky! Very smooth and rich
Gunnar,
Indeed exotic, pretty simple on first taste and the fruit is sweet and overwhelming at first, but once you get used to it, it's a nice round drink with a twist.
