Member Reviews and Ratings of Kavalan Classic Single Malt Whisky
Greg,
Comes off with more of a rum smell to it with the sweetness from the fruity notes. The oak and wood notes do balance it out slightly but there's still a sweetness to it that I'm not a fan of.

Christopher,
Sweet and light with notes of mango, honey, maybe sweet tarts/runts candy. The flavor dissipates quickly and the finish is negligible. Maybe I just got a dud bottle, but this dram was sweet but unimpressive
Samuel,
As soon as I tasted the chalkey banana Runt candy note, I was out.
Jacopo,
Not bad, not great.
Eric,
one of the worst bottles i've bought from Flaviar.
Ronnie,
A little to much Rye for my taste
Antti,
It is an outstanding, elegant, Taiwanese Single Malt Whisky that has an aromatic birth; while a full & creamy life leads to a zesty death of medium length with notes of of allspice, pear skin, mango, meat & more vanilla.
Thomas,
Well-balanced and complex, fruity, oaky, moderately spicy, just the right amount of sweetness and a surprisingly long finish, overall a very enjoyable whisky.
Ajit,
Very smooth. Tastes like port wine with a finish of aged single malt. Floral smells are great too. Not too sweet or dry.
Roy,
Not much to dislike here. Following a brisk summer evening hill pursuit to my fellow malt consumers abode, the Kavalan went down at a surprising rate of knots alongside a Caithness IPA. Session malt.
Jonathan,
This one is in between a 7 and an 8 for me. I went with 8/10 because its complexity hits really well. At first sense of smell, I thought this was going to be very sweet and not much else. However, once it hit my tongue, its taste transformed to something completely different. I was too distracted the first time tasting it, so I took a second sip and tried to taste the flavors. The floral and oak tastes I think are what first pop and then almost immediately shifts into a sweeter taste with a spicy/zesty finish. I did not particularly pick up on the meat, but perhaps you would be more inclined to pick that up if you were eating it with steak, which I was not. Finish was okay, decently long, but this receives an 8 for me just for the complexity of flavors.
AJ,
Sweet, smooth start, slight bite at the end. Nondescript smell.
Patrick,
This was very good. Based off of the taster notes I do get lots of floral sweetness and creaminess followed by the oak and a bit of spiciness (though hardly any, this goes down almost too smoothly). Love this dram. Definitely in my top 5.
Alex,
Clean and fruity! Excellent for a drink you can just relax with.
Phil,
My rating is impacted by the fact that my local ABC had a close-out on this whisky and I napped three bottles for $40 each. But this is a solid whisky. I view it as a blend between old-world whisky of Europe and new-world whisky of Japan, adopting the best of both. Very smooth, very silky, with tones of sweet and fruit. Honestly, some sips went down as smooth as water which is dangerous. If you can get for a good price, I recommend it highly.
Ryan,

Heavy fruit flavors with an introductory acidic note. Finishes sweet.

Sweet but not overly sweet. Loved the finish and lingering flavor.
Michael,
Great taste, the sake cask aging makes for a unique flavor.
Halstead,
Love this stuff. Kavalan is wonderfully rich and holds up to fireside talks late into the night. Bold & vibrant!

Unbelievably good for an Asian country/climate!

Smooth. Shouldn't be in the 'Class of 2015' though. Still, a nice
Matthew,
Did not like the finish. It completely ruined the whiskey for me.
Corey,
Just a really nice and smooth whisky. I was surprised that it was Taiwanese, I had a little trouble deciding which favors really stood out the most. I got subtle vanilla, almost caramel. Very pleasant drink. I would definitely drink more.
