Unaged Rye from Finland, made by Northmen for the Northmen.

Kyro Distillery is situated in the Isokyro region of Finland and began producing spirits in 2014. Based in what was once the “most famous cheese factory in Finland”, the idea for the distillery came about in a sauna, and has flourished from there. Kyro specialises in Rye products and has created a range of Rye-based spirits, including both Gin and Whisky. This is definitely a distillery to watch, both because of their innovation, and also their much anticipated 2017 release of an oak matured Rye whisky.

The crystal clear Juuri Unaged Rye is made from the finest Finnish ingredients and is some of the best new make spirit available. Malted to perfection, the Rye spirit is not left to mature, although the distillery does have a release of an oak matured rye whisky in 2017. For those seeking to experience Rye before it embraces a wooden barrel, Juuri Unaged Rye is definitely the route to follow.

A decade ago there were only 6 brands of Rye Whiskey hailing from Kentucky, nowadays there are more than 50!
George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
Rye sparked the first revolution after the American Independence. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion, and it arose when the government tried to tax Whiskey and enforce the taxation on distillers. The lesson here? Don't mess with a Whiskey drinker's dram.
Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
