A powerful old-school Rye Whiskey with a rich mouth feel and classic flavor profile done right.

Three Oaks, Michigan is a small town of about fifteen-hundred at the southwestern-most tip of the state. If it were a mile or two further south it would be in Indiana. Journeyman Distillery is located there and bills itself as a working-man’s shop. The building was a buggy whip and corset manufacturer back in the 1800s, and it is this history that influences the names of their twenty-two products — from Featherbone Bourbon to Buggy Whip Wheat and beyond.

George Washington has a special place in the history of America and the world. He had the opportunity to seize power twice, but put his country first — famously saying, "I am not a king." Well, not only was he the first President of the United States, he was also a distiller of Rye Whiskey. So it seems totally fitting that the good folks at Journeyman Distillery would pay homage to the man by crafting a Rye Whiskey in his honor. Not a King Rye is a limited edition Whiskey released each year on President’s Day. This powerful and tasty dram is 60% organic rye and 40% organic corn and 100% awesome at 45% ABV.

Smartass Corner:
After Napoleon emerged victorious during the French Revolution he seized power — making himself dictator and trying to conquer all of Europe. Afterward, he is said to have lamented, "They wanted me to be another Washington."

Character Dogson
The original owner of the Featherbone factory was a man named E. K. Warren. In addition to making two products (now used in economics classes as the very definition of declining products) — buggy-whips and corsets — Mr. Warren was a die-hard abolitionist.
A decade ago there were only 6 brands of Rye Whiskey hailing from Kentucky, nowadays there are more than 50!
Rye sparked the first revolution after the American Independence. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion, and it arose when the government tried to tax Whiskey and enforce the taxation on distillers. The lesson here? Don't mess with a Whiskey drinker's dram.
Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
