That final year spent in Madeira casks did an already great Whiskey good.

With 6 generations of the Ryan family being involved in the Whiskey business, they have seen and done it all — from owning public houses to farming the barley and distilling the Spirits. Eunan Ryan started working in the family pubs at the age of thirteen — obviously, this was before the advent of pesky child labor laws. But today he runs the family Whiskey businesses, along with his Jack Ryan Whiskey Company in Dublin. They've already struck Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and considering the tough competition they were up against, that's a mighty-fine accomplishment indeed!

The Jack Ryan Generation Trilogy series has two delicious drams in the form of Rum-finished Haddington and Calvados-finished Toomevara. The third one is called Finisher's Touch, and it's another epic dram. This collab with Justino's of Santa Cruz, Portugal, has spent its first 11 years in Bourbon barrels, before being finished in Madeira casks for a year. Let's go over what we have right here: a dozen years, 92 proof, some nice fortified Wine casks... Yep, ticks all the right boxes!

Appearance / Color
Golden

Nose / Aroma / Smell
A pleasant citrusy sweetness greets the nose with orange, wood tannins, and marmalade.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
There's more of that citrusy goodness on the palate with blood orange, clementine, and tangerine. It's woody as well as woodsy with some forest notes in there. Honey and a hint of ginger balance things nicely.

Finish
It finishes long and satisfying with those orange notes ringing out and some autumn leaves making an entry. There's a touch of malt in there as well.

The Harp is the official emblem of Ireland, not the shamrock. The reason for shamrock’s fame is Saint Patrick.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
Irish Whiskey has many varieties: grain Whiskey, malted barley pot-still-distilled, and ‘pure pot-still’ (or ‘single pot still’ as it is now officially known). Then there is Poitin, one of the first Spirits ever made.
Whiskey producers lose on average about 2% of their stock a year to angels' share. For Jameson, the biggest one of the Irish Whiskey brands, it means 29 thousand bottles going into the air (literally) every day!
