Jefferson’s famous Ocean Voyage edition repeats a winning combination of grain and sea.

Jefferson’s was founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet — a famed Bourbon historian who wrote the book on Kentucky Distilleries. Yes, an actual book called "Bourbon in Kentucky: A History of Distilleries in Kentucky." And eight generations ago, their great-great-grandmother was arrested for the "production and sales of spiritous liquors" in 1799. Which makes her the coolest ancestor ever! They acquire and produce a range of specialty Bourbons and Rye Whiskeys. In 2007 Jefferson’s was sold to Castle Brands to build upon their portfolio of premium Spirits.

We all know that Bourbon is great. It’s one of the most popular Spirits in the world. And the thing that makes a great Bourbon even greater is a REAL story behind it.

Each release of Jefferson’s Aged at Sea Ocean series is different. Jefferson’s Ocean Special Wheated Voyage 22 is a similar release to Voyage 15. Both are wheated versions of the standard Jefferson’s mash bill. The exact proportions of Jefferson’s grain mix are a state secret, but this dram definitely has the smoothing, sweet influence of a good portion of wheat sitting on top of the corn and barley. And just like its predecessor, there is an extra measure of brine influence on the nose and palate.

Ratings & Reviews
Excellent wheated bourbon if you are willing to pay the higher price for an interesting story. Lots of flavor and I could taste a salty caramel.
Delightfully smooth.
Solid, but has a HARSH initial bite. Not nearly a smooth as other voyages... pun intended.
Meh. It’s just.... fine. I don’t get any salt like some reviewers have said comes from the ocean air. Flavor is there, but doesn’t pop. Short finish. Not worth the inflated cost, this is a $35 bottle at most.
This is my second Ocean bottle. Voyage 20 (a blend of straight bourbons) was my first "Ocean experience." The first I gave a high rating on my FLaviar review, and I found this one lacked any major differences. The flavor was bolder. I got some smell and tastes of the salt, but I am finding it harder to convince myself to spend $95+ for Jefferson's Ocean after Voyage 22 (Special Wheated bourbon). Honestly, I would not pay more than $60 for this. Cool concept, but was not as impressed.
Unbelievably impressive. Saying this as an anti-ryer but this was like the sweet smooch of a siren. The salt ocean lingered on your lips, while caramel swirls of butterscotch lapped around your tongue. Left you a little breathless wanting more.
Hints of orange and brown sugar on the nose. A little hot on the tongue at first but settles in with citrus, caramel and vanilla.
You can definitely taste the ocean in this. Very sipable
Salted Caramel. Very good.
Extremely pleased with this bourbon. Light & sweet on the nose, quite creamy to taste and a mild finish. Not like I have a very sophisticated palate, but this is among the best I’ve had. Will pick it up every time I see it under $100.
The ocean sway has created a strong depth of smoothe flavors.
