A special Flaviar Edition of the famous Jefferson’s Ocean Voyage 17 — the “rubber duck” cruise.
Jefferson’s was founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet — a famed Bourbon historian who wrote the book on Kentucky distilleries. Yes, an actual book called “Bourbon in Kentucky: A History of Distilleries in Kentucky.” And eight generations ago, their great-great-grandmother was arrested for the “production and sales of spiritous liquors” in 1799. Which makes her the coolest ancestor ever! They acquire and produce a range of specialty Bourbons and Rye Whiskies. In 2007 Jefferson’s was sold to Castle Brands to build portfolio of premium Spirits.
To review some of the details, the Ocean Voyage series was launched in 2012. Casks of Bourbon aged from six to eight years are bended, re-barreled, and put on board a ship for finishing. They spend months sailing around the world on cargo ships in the neat, cold, and constant motion of the sea. Each voyage takes a different route and contains a different blend.
Flaviar has partnered with Jefferson’s for a special Flaviar Edition of hand-selected casks from Voyage 17. It’s comprised of small-batch, Kentucky Bourbons aged seven and eight years on land before going to sea for four to five months and bottled at 45% ABV. Supply is limited to 144 bottles!
Smartass corner:
Years ago a container ship lost a cargo of children’s bath toys during a storm — rubber ducks and other toys. Tens of thousands of the toy were released into the sea. When Voyage 17 departed Tacoma, Washington on the first leg of its journey the crew came upon a remnant group of these toys still adrift.
