Whisky at sea

Jefferson’s Bourbon was founded by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, and was first launched in 1997. Chet is a Bourbon expert, so it was only natural that he should turn to crafting it. The company is said to have been called after Thomas Jefferson in light of his curiosity and experimental spirit. The company produces both Bourbon and Rye Whiskies, but does not distil these itself. Rather, it sources fine Whisky from other, experience distilleries and blends them to create a new drink. The company is famed for its experimental ways of doing things, this includes maturing Whisky at sea.

Jefferson’s Ocean is unique. Not only has it been aged at sea, but the journey takes it across the equator 4 times as well as stopping in 5 continents. It would be difficult to find a more globalised Whisky! This small batch Whisky has a very interesting flavour profile. It offers up a wide range of sweet and spicy notes that chime together and create perfect harmony. There is also a significant dark chocolate-esque bitterness that plays alongside some of the louder notes and is captured wonderfully on the palate.

What does Jefferson's Ocean Aged Bourbon taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Jefferson's Ocean Aged Bourbon and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

The temperatures of American warehouses are much higher, so the pace of maturation is much quicker for Bourbons than for Scotch Whiskies

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Colour
Rich Amber
Smell / Nose / Aroma
Sweet red apples and thick caramel followed by spicy vanilla and cinnamon
Flavour / Taste / Palate
Sweetness of dried fruits comes through with milky coffee and bitter dark chocolate, some sea air saltiness as well. Very creamy.
Dark chocolate really appears as well as more cinnamon and vanilla.

One of the best bourbons I've ever tasted
Great flavor well worth a try
Each voyage is slightly different. I love the slight brine, as well as the depth of flavor in each of the voyages.
One of the smoothest bourbons I have tried. Dangerously drinkable.
Smooth with great undertones. Doesn't overpower and still has nice bourbon edge through the warm flavored.
Very smooth
