James E. Pepper 1776 Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey
Brendan,
Spicy with good heat. Great mouthfeel and surprisingly easy to sip on despite the higher proof. Works great in cocktails as well. A great buy!
James E. Pepper 1776 Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey
Alex,
One of my favorite ryes and the best one you’ll find for this price point. The rye spice dominate the nose with the clove & cinnamon following through from nose to finish. The minty & herbal bit on the finish sits with you a moment & you can almost forget you’re drinking a 116 proof...
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Bourbon Whiskey
William,
Good bourbon, but a little stronger than I usually prefer. I like the taste, especially with an ice cube.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Michael,
Definitely peppery. If that’s what you’re looking for then you’ll like this. I’ve been on a kick of rye’s lately and wasn’t a big fan of this. Makes for a good old fashioned though.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Earl,
I found this rye to be a bit brittle when tasting it neat, however it provided plenty of character when building a Manhattan using my DIY Orange Ginger bitters and my own brandied cherries. It is also very well priced. It holds a place in my home bar.

Excellent value. A very full-bodied and complex flavor at a very reasonable price point.
James E. Pepper 1776 7 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey
Ryan,
I felt like the nose was almost overwhelming. Very spicy in the start, but then gave way pretty spontaneously to the honey and caramel. It took a couple good sips before i could start to taste the more complex flavors. Overall I enjoyed it. I wouldnt turn down a glass, but i won't be running for a bottle either.

Lora,
spicy. clove up front, some oak, finishes sweet. very enjoyable, especially with a couple ice cubes, but spicy enough it's not going to be a regular go to for me

Shawn,
Aggressively flavorful. Long lasting flavor at the back of the throat. Definitely a slap in the face for someone new to ryes, however, not in a bad way. Not sure yet whether I like it or love it.

This is amazing. The sherry and slight smoke note that gives way to a warm honeycomb sweetness.

James,
This was an absolutely great Rye. I feel really lucky to have been able to get this bottle from the Flaviar nabbed cask. Definitely a smooth and satisfying rye drank neat. It has a honey, oak flavor with notes of vanilla and chocolate, with a sweet, spicy, and delicious finish.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Nirav,
It was okay, there is a good amount of rye in there for rye lovers and the whiskey itself is very smooth. That being said, I couldnt get any other flavors beyond that.
James E. Pepper 1776 7 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey
James,
Surprising on the palate. One of my favourites actually and a real peppery lock. Plenty of sweet notes, with the honey and caramel coming through initially. Finishes off with the very slight aniseed taste.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Steve,
This was OK. I'm a huge fan of Pepper's bourbon, so I'd thought I'd give this a try, and it had plenty of rye kick, but by the end of the bottle, I was done with it. To me, Sazerac was better, and cheaper to boot.

Steve,
A little on the sweet side, but still nice.

Terry,
Nice nose not overpowering. Spice upfront with sweetness following. Lingering spice burn. There is a balance of spice and sweet.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Brendan,
Mixes well in cocktails, but the citrus notes are too overpowering for me when I sip it neat. I pick up a lemon-like pine-sol that’s a little off-putting.

Steve,
A good strong rye! Liked it a lot.
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Bourbon Whiskey
Sunni,
Meh. I’d rather spend $30 and get a good bourbon. This one is earthy, ie. it tasted like dirt.

James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Michael,
A good straight rye. My expectations were set a bit high for this re-emerging distillery. I prefer other straight rye whiskeys but this one, with its edgy spice flavors makes and excellent Old Fashioned. Cheers!

Price range and taste, I recommend this for the everyday occasion drink. I was expecting a heavy burn but is a great sip. On the rocks in the hot tub.... a little bit of heaven for this quarantine ... be well......
James E. Pepper 1776 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
Spencer,
This is really excellent. Now my go-to “affordable” rye. Great blend of spice and sweet. Definitely rye, but doesn’t feel like an assault of spice. The nose is, to me, not super interesting but it drinks great.
James E. Pepper 4 Year Old Rye Flaviar Barrel Select
Erik,
A lovely rye, drinks way "softer" than its 107 proof would make you think. Has a genuinely lovely balance between sweet and spice. Whether you are a bourbon drinker looking to explore rye or a rye enthusiat there is something in this whiskey for you to enjoy.
