Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala was founded in the 20th century by five Spanish brothers Venancio, Andrés, Felipe, Jesús and Alejandro Botran.

Based out of Guatemala this privately owned company is the largest distillery of the three in Guatemala.

All Guatemalan Rums are distilled from sugar cane honey. Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala sources their sugar from the Tululá Sugar Mill.

The sugar cane honey is fermented for up to 120 hours with yeast cultivated from pineapples.

Their stainless steel Rum still stands 23 meters tall and is actually comprised of two separate stills, a design that can withstand high winds. The facility produces Zacapa and Botran Rums, as well as a plethora of other Spirits.

The Botran family is synonymous with sugarcane (and subsequently Rum) production in Guatemala. They are one of the richest families in the country. As a result, they have fallen victim to abductions and kidnappings on several occasions.
