Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala was founded in the 20th century by five Spanish brothers
Venancio,
Andrés,
Felipe,
Jesús and
Alejandro Botran.
Based out of Guatemala this privately owned company is the
largest distillery of the three in Guatemala.
All
Guatemalan Rums are distilled from
sugar cane honey. Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala sources their sugar from the Tululá Sugar Mill.
The sugar cane honey is fermented for up to
120 hours with yeast cultivated from
pineapples.
Their stainless steel Rum still stands
23 meters tall and is actually comprised of two separate stills, a design that can withstand high winds. The facility produces
Zacapa and
Botran Rums, as well as a plethora of other Spirits.
