The Illegal one.
has an extraordinary origin story. John Rexer, the company’s owner, would smuggle bottles of Mezcal from Oaxaca to Guatemala to stock his bar Café No Sé. The drink quickly gained popularity and Rexer was able to find a permanent supply chain, albeit an illegal supply chain. From this, Ilegal Mezcal was born. It has since thrived and become somewhat of an artisanal legend. The brand prides itself on not embracing the industrial revolution of drinks production, and rather focuses on the fact that it handcrafted and authentic.
Ilegal Mezcal Reposado is aged for a tender four months
, but this is just long enough to capture hints of the cask while maintaining that true agave heart.
Matured in American oak
, this expression also has hints of smoke
amongst the aromatic agave. The brand prides itself on holding fast to traditional flavours and places the agave above all else. This Mezcal combines that signature agave with undertones of sweet and spice. The tangy flavours of the barrel also come through and intertwine to create a complex
liquid. It is also incredibly smooth and is perfect to enjoy on its own, or in some incredibly great cocktails.
