Member Reviews and Ratings of Ichiro's Malt & Grain Whisky
Fairly mild nose with some citrus and a bit of caramel. Surprisingly smooth mouthfeel with little to no burn. The taste is almost sweet with a little butterscotch and some mild citrus. Just enough heat to keep this extremely well balanced. Would happily drink this neat anytime.
Great, great, great! Got some juniper in there...intriguing.
Enjoyed this tasting sample which led to the purchase of this bottle
Complex, smooth, light peat...ends spicy
Excellent smooth taste. Nice if you don't like the smoky whisky.
Aromatically, this smells, lingers, and finishes like a gin in the nose and on my tongue. However, it is more like a rye in the throat. Very spicy. It's not bad so much as it is confusing to me. This is probably more culturally telling of me, but this evolution of flavor is REALLY confusing to me.
Someone might really like this if they want to try something boldly different from the rest of the whisk(e)y world, and comes close to herbal at times.
Citrus on the nose almost comes off like juniper/gin. Smooth and sweet on the palate with a dry rye like finish.
Some interesting depth to this. Some peat for sure and typical whisky sweetness. Maybe a little banana? An oddball for sure but pretty smooth throughout.
A little strong alcohol finish
Got it as a part of the big in Japan 2 box and this was terrible
I hope for them my sample was somehow bad, as otherwise it was straight up undrinkable.
First time I didn’t finish the drink. (And I liked the rest of the box a lot)
Nice and smooth and I love the muted citrus hint. Very good!
Part of my tasting box. Loved this one best of the three. Smooth, full of flavor, medium legs. I Will buy a bottle and add it to my collection.
This was my 2nd favorite in the tasting box. Good flavor, smooth finish.
Clean, smooth great sipping whiskey with a higher grain profile than other japanese whiskies I have tried.
I enjoyed the maltiness of this dram. I found it to be light and tasty with a good amount of sweetness.
The best one out of the tasting, by far!
Did not work for me at all. I'm a scotch drinker, islay all the way! This is as far from Lagavulin as it gets. Some may call it subtle, I call it boring.
Best Japanese whiskey I’ve had. Smooth and very drinkable.
Love Ichiro's Malt - just a little sweet which balances out any bite. Great choice
Best Japanese whiskey I have ever tasted
This one had potential but none of the flavors seem to be working together.
A very bland whiskey
Maybe I’m crazy, but after letting it sit a bit, I get anise (black licorice) flavors amid the vanilla, caramel, and fruit. Intriguing dram!
Interesting. Lemon/citrus with a spicy hint.
The most traditional tasting whisky in the tasting group. Easy sipper, thoroughly enjoyed
Decent offering. Smooth, balanced, nice flavors, and easy to drink. But I wouldn’t pay $100 for a bottle.
Lovely pour. Easy on the palate.
Decent but out of the sample pack the worst in my opinion. More burn than the rest.
Not a fan. The nose hit too chemical for my preferences. There was a subtle minty tropical aroma to it. On the pallet it was a shocking spice. My first experience with a peppery whiskey and I was not a fan. Glad to have tried it though.
Really smooth with good spice as well.
Tastes like my solara bottle.
Smooth and spicy with good caramel taste.
Complex and wonderful.
We liked this one
Aroma: Vanilla, apples, peaches, and honey.
Flavor: Opens with caramel, peaches, and honey, and develops into citrus, apples, and black pepper.
Overall: This is an amazing whisky which reminds me of one of my favorites, the Yamazaki 18, which is impossible to find for less than than an arm AND leg. The overall character is different in many ways, but the way this changes throughout the tasting experience is VERY similar and lovely.
At $100/bottle, I had to add a bottle of this for the whisky cabinet.
Easily the best whisky in the 2020 Advent Calendar.
I had a hard time really enjoying this one. It tasted like young oak, and had a stringent bite that was unappealing. I also didn’t get any of the flavors that the card said I would get. I added water and then it opened up a bit and was more enjoyable. Even though it improved with the addition of water, I probably wouldn’t pick this up at the store.
One of my favorites from the Advent calendar!
Wonderful flavor profile. Simply excellent.
Nice nose, palate was warm with definite hints of lemon zest. The finish lingered too long for my liking.
(Advent 2020, #24) Ending Advent on a high note. This has some some sweet almost fruity notes in the nose. Tasting it there's a nice vanilla and spiciness. The finish is soft, long and pleasant. Very nice, but not sure if it's $100+ nice.
My favorite of the box, good light caramel flavors and balance of little sting
A great finish to the Advent Box, mildly zesty, great aromatics, just the right amount of burn, and smooth on the finish.
Loved it! The fruity notes with the hint of caramel is very, very nice!
Advent #24. Vanilla on the nose. Get the lemon smell after it has sat for a bit. Taste of vanilla to start and ends with the zest and pepper. It’s a good one but there’s something about it that doesn’t check all my boxes.
Smooth, sweet, and delicious.
Really interesting tropical, citrus, and fruit bouquet.
Nice end to the advent calendar. I’m getting most of the notes listed.
Zest, spice, sweet and sticky. Probably my favorite Japanese whiskey that I’ve had. A good end to the 2020 advent.
This one had a fruity smell, with notes of vanilla and lemon - it also had a little bite.
Sweet, tangy. Love this end cap for the advent calendar.
Very fun! Tropical fruits and citrus throughout, with a strong sweetness and a clean zesty finish. Not the All-World Blend that the card leads you to believe, but a very good end to the Advent.
I've been wanting to try this whisky for awhile. Exciting end to the calendar. A lot of fruit on the nose, smooth start with a kick on the finish. Very pleasing whisky.
Good flavor with some zest at the end
Very nice. One of the better Japanese whiskies I’ve had.
Balanced sweetness on the nose with just a hint of lemon and peach, but the flavors of caramel and lemon come through much stronger on the palate, along with a pleasant peach undertone. Smooth, with a light - almost effervescent - finish.
I think it was my favorite of the Advent calendar overall. Great way to finish.
Very good. Nice end to advent calendar. But over $100, why go anywhere but Scotland??
A decent wrap to the advent calendar. I almost thought I caught a hint of smokiness on the nose but then couldn't find it; instead got lemon zest and honey and fresh fruit. Burst of sweetness on the first sip, disipating to sweet hay and malt and tropical fruit. My impression of the finish isn't so much of flavor but sensation. The spice feels almost effervescent, which makes me want to put this in a highball.
Floral notes on the nose. Sweet tropical fruit dominates on the tongue, but balanced nicely with pepper and oak. Smooth and very drinkable.
Advent Day 24 - Fruit and zest on the nose. Palate has more fruit with notes of pepper. Finish is fruity as well. A nice dram to end Advent.
Flaviar Advent sampler #24. This one is good. A bit too fruity for my palate, but it's still very tasty and very drinkable. I would add a bottle of this to my home bar.
Smooth, sweet, tasty, light whisky. Good on its own but has a beginner’s feel
This is really smooth. A lot of fruit and vanilla on the front, and caramel on the back.
Very smooth but not terribly complex. I wouldn’t buy a bottle at this price point
Advent 2020 #24 - warmth verges on hot, but in a good way. Lots of caramel and zest, some spice. Great whiskey, but maybe not for the price for us.
Aroma was great - little sherry, big floral notes, a touch of graham cracker, honey, and even a perfume-like quality. Taste was decent but not overly complex to me - slight sherry again, a little oak, a little honey. Thin mouthfeel though and finish was fleeting.
Nice smell and smooth taste
This is our go-to Japanese whiskey for a consistent taste profile. Clean, complex, and smooth.
Super smooth and tasty
One of the best whiskeys I have ever had!
Had this at a local steakhouse. Was fantastic.
This is a great bottle of Whiskey! I had not seen this on Flaviar before my purchase, but received an a mazing review from a store clerk, this kid knew his stuff! It's worth every penny!
This is one of my favorite whiskies. Very complex with a great finish.
Very drinkable Japanese whiskey, but for the price, didn't stand out relative to Hibiki or Toki or some of the other "light" Japanese whiskeys. For less money, I would keep drinking Nikka whiskeys, especially the Coffey Malt
Damn good stuff, sir. I cant wait to sit next to my pool on a crisp night and enjoy this. Thats what the flavor profile brings to mind
nose: butterscotch upfront, vanilla cream soda, apricots, some banana, really creamy
palate: thick creamy mouthfeel, vanilla and some fruit, honey and tobacco
finish: medium finish, vanilla lingers, still creamy, slight spice, small amount of peat
overall: really solid drink, the creamy taste and mouthfeel goes well with the fruity aspect of the drink. easy drinker, competes well with the suntary lines
Excellent! If you like scotch you will love this Japanese whiskey.
Nice and interesting Japanese whisky. Complex after each sip.
