This just might be the first Japanese Whisky to have it’s own groupies.

The best description we’ve ever heard about Ichiro Akuto is that he’s the “Rock Star of Japanese Whisky.” While the other heavyweight executives of Japan’s thriving distilling industry can walk around spirit conferences in obscurity, Ichiro Akuto gets mobbed by fans. With good reason. His family owned the legendary Hanyu Distillery for generations and when they sold the business, Ichiru held on to the standing inventory and issue special releases for years — including the famous “Playing Cards” series that made him famous. He has used those proceeds to craft new flavorful blends and other tasty offerings.

Ichiro's Malt & Grain is labeled as “a worldwide blended whisky.” The exact components of this gem are kept secret, but there appears to be a lot of local, Japanese spirit with enough outside elements to craft the flavor profile Ichiro was looking for. It is — obviously — a combination of Single Malts and grain Whiskies married at the Chichibu Distillery, but all that you will notice is the lovely flavor profile, delicate texture, and spot-on 46% ABV.

What does Ichiro's Malt Grain & Malt taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Ichiro's Malt Grain & Malt and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Ratings & Reviews
Dustin
Dustin,
This is one of my favorite whiskies. Very complex with a great finish.

Ryan
Ryan,
Very drinkable Japanese whiskey, but for the price, didn't stand out relative to Hibiki or Toki or some of the other "light" Japanese whiskeys. For less money, I would keep drinking Nikka whiskeys, especially the Coffey Malt

Jesse
Jesse,
Damn good stuff, sir. I cant wait to sit next to my pool on a crisp night and enjoy this. Thats what the flavor profile brings to mind

Anthony
Anthony,
nose: butterscotch upfront, vanilla cream soda, apricots, some banana, really creamy palate: thick creamy mouthfeel, vanilla and some fruit, honey and tobacco finish: medium finish, vanilla lingers, still creamy, slight spice, small amount of peat overall: really solid drink, the creamy taste and mouthfeel goes well with the fruity aspect of the drink. easy drinker, competes well with the suntary lines
