The brainchild of the legendary Ichiro Akuto and a collectors’ favorite go-to, Chichibu distillery opened in Saitama, Japan, in 2008. It was the country’s first new distillery since Suntory opened Hakushu back in 1973 and it’s been a fast rising star ever since.

Ichiro's Malt Chichibu 2019 Single Cask No. 2134 is a single cask Whisky that was made from Concerto barley and aged for 6 years in an ex-Bourbon barrel. Bearing a label that presumably honors the rat year, it was bottled at cask strength of 60.6% in 2019. Only around 200 bottles were produced, making this collectable bottling extremely rare.

It's not uncommon for Japanese Whisky to be aged in mizunara (Japanese oak) casks. Suntory conducted a research on how mizunara oak influences Whisky flavor and found out it adds coconut notes to it.
