Another rare single cask Rum from Holmes Cay, this time from Fiji with a creamy, almost buttery flavor profile.

Windyside Spirits was founded by husband & wife combo Eric Kaye and Maura Gedid. Eric introduced Maura to fine aged Rums while they were dating and it became a shared passion. They formed Windyside Spirits in 2019 and set to importing premium single-cask Rums to support their new Holmes Cay brand. Their first stop, the famous Foursquare Distillery in Barbados where Eric and Maura struck a deal for their inaugural release.

You don’t hear a lot about Rums made in Fiji. Aside from domestic consumption, most of the rest is sent to nearby Australia. Holmes Cay shipped a single casks of special Fijian Rum that was aged for twelve years in ex-Bourbon casks and then transferred to new American oak casks for an additional four years. And the kicker is that since this is, indeed, a single cask, there are only 240 bottles of Holmes Cay Fiji 2004 Rum available for all of us to share. And because this is Holmes Cay, of course there is no additives, only the most basic of filtration, and it’s bottled at a cask strength of 58% ABV.

Smartass Corner:
Fiji is a tropical island paradise located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean about 2700 miles East-Northeast of Brisbane Australia. Fiji Rums are hard to get because of the logistical challenges and limited production.

A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. The most popular suggestions are Rum (the Romani word for 'potent'), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), and Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).

Ratings & Reviews
Vary Nice not a rum drinker, bought for a friend and drank some with him, could drink this on all occasions!!
Incredible. Compared to Transcontinental Rum Line Fiji 2014 is an educational and entertaining experience. The rums both come from the same plantation, and offer two very different expressions. This Holmes Cay is light years ahead of the Transcontinental, and I consider myself a fan of that one! Everything is better here: the nose, the opening, and the finish are all 10/10 for me, and has become one of the best rums I've ever had the experience of sipping.
