We love Burns Night. Not because we would particularly need an excuse to celebrate fine Scotch but still. It’s a night dedicated to the poet Robert Burns a.k.a. the Scottish Shakespeare. A lover of words, women, and good Scotch, he inspired many-an artist including Bob Dylan, J. D. Salinger, and John Steinbeck. He also fathered at least 12 children in his 37 years. A man of a prolific career, no doubt.
Celebrated on 25 January to commemorate the date of his birth, the Burns Night traditions include poetry recitals, pipes, kilts, and haggis. Naturally, we’ll focus on the Scotch-part of the shenanigans.
First, you’ll need a fine Scotch. You can’t go wrong with a timeless classic like Highland Park 12 YO Single Malt. There’s something about the 12 years of maturation that seems to deliver supreme Scotch Single Malts. First introduced in 1979, this one is still the Highland Park Distillery’s core expression. The smooth and balanced character that offers you the best of fine Scotch has won more than 30 medals. Everybody who considers themselves at least a tad of a Scotch aficionado should have a bottle of this beauty ready in their home bar.
There’s no better way to savor this fine dram like a connoisseur than with Flaviar x Highland Park Whisky Snifter. A unique collector’s item, the large surface area encourages the evaporation of the sipper while the narrow top traps it for you to sense new dimensions of aromas and flavors.
And finally, for those of you who like to mix themselves a fine classic cocktail, Flaviar x Highland Park Bitters. For every Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Manhattan, and Rob Roy (the list goes one), you’ll need a dash of bitters. When your Spirit is supreme, your bitters shouldn’t be subpar.
