guest,
Sweet, nice flavor. Not super smooth, but a very good bourbon for the price.
Glenn,
Smooth, much smoother than the price or a whiskey not from KY. I was surprised when I had this at a bar recently, and glad I got the bottle. this will go into my week night rotation. slightly sweet, caramel to me, a nice nightcap.
guest,
Love it, sweet but has the rye spice in the finish
Nick,
Excellent standby blended bourbon. A little sweet and smoky with a smooth forward and slightly spicy finish. Great for sipping neat, on the rocks, or in Old Fashioneds.
Zac,
If you like scotch and you like bourbon. This is the bottle for you.
Jason,
Delicious sweet
Mac,
Someone said it’s like a dirty stick got dipped in cheap whiskey, which sounded really appealing. It is not that good.
Joshua,
Carmel oak taste, and vanilla. A little light at first but finishes with a bite. I did like it.
Rob,
Really really disliked. It tasted like someone soaked a big dirty stick in a watered down light tasting whiskey
Tracey,
Very enjoyable bottle, soft on the palette, would definitely recommend to others!
Evan,
Great daily sipper
Carl,
Amazing especially for the price-point. Neat is the way to go.
Jacob,
Smooth with a nice hint of caramel
Christopher,
Smooth. Sweet caramel for a second or two, before morphing into heavy cinnamon and pepper, and a very dry finish. I haven’t found many rye bourbons that I have enjoyed, not that I’ve tried a lot of them, but so far this is at the top of my list.
Jonathan,
mild, did not have a lot of depth to its flavor
Victoria,
This is a single barrel edition from Fischer's Liquor in GJ.
Eduardo,
Not for me
Brad,
This is my least favorite of the High West offerings. It has all of the typical Bourbon flavors, but very muted.
Michael,
Enjoyed this bourbon and was pleasantly surprised on how smooth it was.
Mark,
Really delicious!
Ryan,
Spicy and bity
Patrick,
I’m not a big “Rye Bourbon” drinker however, this one’s pretty good. I’m picking up the cinnamon and caramel and that’s fine. Fairly smooth on the rocks and mixes well with 7-Up. I’d buy it again.
William,
My rating takes into account the price. Really good $35 bourbon. Smooth with a nice caramel palette. I will keep this in my bar for my evenings when I am on number 3 or 4.
Diane,
So smooth and easy to drink. I like this with a couple small rocks, similar to Stranahans, but a little more smooth.
Jesse,
Not professional taste tester by any means. Only reason for the low rating by me is, I am not a fan of the heavy Rye taste.
Alyssa,
Average drink. Nothing super special but still great sipping
Duane,
Decent for the price. Notes of fruit, cinnamon. Finish was moderate. Would buy again.
guest,
Gots a lot going on. But pretty solid at this price point!
Tom,
Like it. Different but good
Thomas,
Did not like
Philip,
Spicy bourbon. Bitter and dry. There are flavors of citrus, banana, burnt wood, and tannin, but they were hard to find at first.
It opens up with air and time or a few drops of water.
Dropping in an orange twist made it taste like an old fashioned without needing sugar or bitters.
It has some unique characteristics, but the bitterness and dryness hurt its drinkability neat.
Not a bottle I will reach for often, but I’ll revisit and think it will add some nice character to an old fashioned or other cocktails.
David,
At around $30, this is a steal. I tried the double rye first, as well as campfire, and while neither of those impressed me for the price, this is worth every penny. I love the spice to it, and the lingering finish. Easily a go to from now on.
Kyle,
This bottle definitely has the feeling of the old west. It burns the whole way down!
Alex,
Really nice bourbon. Smooth from start to finish. Tastes of honey and toasted bread.
guest,
This bourbon drinks well above it’s price point. My favorite.
Daren,
A really nice and distinctive bourbon.
Daren,
Spicy, lively and bright. It's got a lot of character, and keeps giving on spice.
Daren,
Wrong review, how I can delete dis?
Justin,
It’s ok. The burnt flavor is very strong.
guest,
Definitely getting the burnt flavor. Up front though I think it would s still mellow, with a solid spiciness halfway down the throat.
Zach,
Sweet and smooth, very solid bourbon.
Jason,
Great value for the price. My friend likened it to a (slightly) less complex Michter’s which I though was a good analogy. Drinks quite easy for a 92 proof bottle. I’d recommend drinking neat.
guest,
Have always been a big fan of High West Distillery and their products. There is a sense of originality, uniqueness and heartiness to all of their releases which often pays homage to a wonderful part of our country. There has been adequate reviews of American Prairie but to put it frankly High West does not make a bad product and often connects the dots ( ie Midsummer Night Dram)- American Prarie is a solid bourbon again with a uniqueness which is not found in other whiskeys. Nose -caramel touch of vanilla Palate -a tad bit thin bunt reminds me of a warm campfire corn touch of fruit— bread (unique) finish- medium more of that corn light sweetness 8.3/10
Bryan,
Slightly above average bourbon. Orange citrus, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, and faint cereal (corn flakes). Little thin with the flavor. Drinkable... yes, would I buy again... maybe.
Lauren,
It’s fine. It’s not very complex but drinkable neat or on the rocks. Doesn’t stand up great in cocktails.
Michael,
I have liked this one since I visited their distillery in Park City a few years ago. Consistently good, smooth and I agree a good value.
Chris,
Pretty good. Could be a bit more
Flavorful
Keith,
Very smooth for the price
Michael,
good bourbon
Joel,
A very smooth, drinkable bourbon. I'd agree with the burnt caramel. It's a nice bourbon to include in your bar, but it's not big on flavor in my opinion. I like enough to keep it around, but won't go out of my way to buy it again. You'll get smooth, but a little more flavor with Buffalo Trace (IMO).
Alex,
Burnt caramel is pretty accurate for a dominant flavor. For the price point it’s one of the better ones I’ve had. Only had this one and the double rye, but they’re both very impressive and look forward to trying more from them.
Mike,
One of my favorites
Brian,
One of my favorite bourbons for the price! It's not the best but it's way better than most in the market of low $30!
Joe,
Pretty smooth
Jeff,
Good, not great! Little light on taste
Joel,
Sweet Carmel good middle of the road whiskey. Good buy
Michael,
Good middle of the road whiskey, would purchase again.
Jay,
Solid. Just a good standard bourbon. Not sure it’s any better than regular Four Roses
Brandon,
I’m going to kind of echo some of the other reviews. The quality and smoothness is akin to a bottle that would cost easily double the price. The nose is sweet, like vanilla and butter. The slight burn, like a good bourbon, mellows into the sweet oaky finish that tingles for a few minutes after. Love this sipping bourbon.
Jeff,
Very smooth and excellent taste
Devan,
Hands down the best bottle I've had for under $40. It rivals bottles I've had for twice the price. It's sweet and caramely.
Greg,
Not for me one of the poorest Bourbon’s I have had so far
Briana,
Very smooth
Seth,
One of my go-to bourbons whenever I can find it in bars/restaurants.
Adam,
One of the best bourbons I have ever had
Stephen,
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Had a nice earthy feel with a caramel aftertaste. Best of the set.
Jon,
Smooth and delicious! Not much more that I want out of a bourbon
Jon,
Delicious straight up!
guest,
initial sweetness with hints of green apple transitioning to a spicy finish. a delicious and interesting bourbon.
George,
A quality blend with flavor and spice. Nice on the palate, another great offering from High West.
Kevin,
My absolute favorite whiskey ever. I love the carmel and spice that are right up front. The finish is smooth but with a definite edge.
Michael,
Would make a good house bourbon. Accessible flavor profile will agree with most guests and the price/availability will not leave you hurting. Save your good bourbon's for friend's that will appreciate them and share this one with everyone else!
Justin,
I really like this bourbon for the price. I was able to get it for around $30 and it's hard to beat if you're looking for a nice, smooth bourbon that's not too light or sweet.
Lewis,
I love how this tastes. Let the air touch it for awhile and it gets better.
Ben,
Pretty decent
Lane,
Love High West! My go to distillery. Great for the price. Burnt earth start to a spicy maple finish. Good everyday drinking for the price
Stephen,
Nice oak flavor. Relatively mild drink, good value for the price.
Gordon,
Surprisingly smooth. Flavor profile is complex for sure.
Josh,
Love High West. Hoping some of their special edition whiskeys pop up here from time to time.
Zane,
Definitely worth a bottle. Standout, classic bourbon flavors. Holds its own against many higher priced bourbons. Keep going back to it.
Christina,
A solid bourbon.
Maja,
Great
Thomas,
This Bourbon punches way above it's weight class. A great whiskey for the price. Put a big ice cube in a glass and enjoy sipping on this.
Nejc,
Love it
guest,
Excellent
Andrew,
One of the better whiskey’s from high west
Jason,
Not too bad. Doesn’t have the warmth I typically look for in a bourbon, though. Reminds me more of a rye.
Brian,
Sweet and toasty. Ok sipper, but better with ice. My favorite in the box, but still wouldn’t add it to my bar
Danny,
Could smell the burnt Carmel well with hint of honey. Taste a little spice with butterscotch and maple. Finish just sweet enough. Good for price range.
Kevin,
This is my absolute fav bourbon. I've been drinking High West for as long as they've been on the market. The American Prairie Bourbon has a great taste that is sweet with caramel, vanilla, and honey. It's not too sweet though. The finish has a bit of an edge that I really like. I wish the American Prairie Reserve was still around. Enjoy!!
Amanda,
Didn’t love this one. The “burnt caramel” flavor listed on the tasting notes was intriguing; however, “burnt” was the primary flavor.
David,
nice … spicy and yummy
Kat,
smooth
Kendra,
Like it
Justin,
Tasty for the price!
Devin,
The color is copper, with thin to medium and fast tears. The nose is floral with hints of caramel and toffee, like being in a candy store.
The taste is slightly smokey, very spicy with a bit of sweetness, like a mesquite barbecue. The spice hits you hard up front and then transitions into a long finish with hints of chocolate and caramel.
Interesting flavors but not very enjoyable to drink.
Kristen,
Spicy, a little too bitter
Louie,
It was a very nice whiskey. All I can say is good stuff.
Justin,
Decent bourbon but has a slightly harsh taste in the middle that I am not a fan of. Pretty good finish though.
Charles,
Very nice daily drinker, with a cool presentation. Coming from Utah, it definitely has the "Old West" image. It's priced where I wouldn't hesitate to have a bottle on hand.
Ross,
This had a bite to it, not too much flavor.
Owen,
Pretty smooth. Perfect on its own. Really get the burnt as well as smooth honey notes. Not too sweet but you can tell it’s there. The Campfire one is also excellent.
Jennifer,
Their blends are great. Campfire is perfect for sitting around a campfire.
Jefferie,
Really good. Hints of Carmel and spices. Smooth
Art,
I loved this bottle, great price and very very smooth. It also seems pretty easy to find at stores which I like. I loved the smell of this Bourbon and it was consistent from beginning to end.
Damien,
Nice burnt taste to it. Smooth from beginning to end.
Thomas,
Nice flavor I liked it way more than the campfire version. I think there are better brands out in the same price range.
Lindsay,
Caramel finish, burn after taste was too strong for me
Tony,
Sample high West last night the smell of the whiskey is a true. If you’re looking for a true Straight up sipping whiskey You definitely need to try high West this is a part of my top five
Brett,
Super smoky. Not joking about the campfire whiskey! It’s actually fairly easy drinking after the first drink though
Sue,
The best $30 bottle out there. Great straight and also in an old fashioned.
Ann,
The spice and burn overpowered any more delicate flavors. The consensus was it left something to be desired.
guest,
Great quality and taste for the price. Hi West has yet to disappoint.
Jason,
Big fan of the Brand in general as they do a very nice job! I have a bottle of this from Batch # 1, unopened! Really like some of their other bottles as well!
Robert,
spice moving to sweet. Does that make it balanced?
Dave,
Love this balanced bourbon!
Corey,
Pretty solid
Bret,
A little spice to begin, smooth semi sweet finish. A good for anything bourbon.
Jeff,
Great bourbon - great mixer good sipper. Butterscotch n spice right off , nice nose and great finish
Deja,
Smooth..
Lynn,
Nice finish
Matt,
Love this bourbon. Sweet, delicious, and amazing in a Manhattan, old fashioned, or straight up.
Craig,
Of the three in the tasting box, I liked this one the best. I noticed the spicy-ness more, and some butterscotch. I wouldn't turn this one down.
Katherine,
Would mix well, and would pair well with food. But underwhelming on its own.
