Have you heard? Spring of 2022 brought us the first edition of a new limited series from the good Heaven Hill folk. And let us tell you, this one’s one to get excited about. It’s part of the Heritage Collection that fuses some of their oldest stocks with their own traditional American Whiskey mash bill.

The youngest juice in there is 17 years old and while the older Bourbons bring you aged oak and leather, the younger ones deliver a bunch of sweet flavors that are beautifully integrated into the mix. Now, this is exactly what a high-aged Kentucky Bourbon should look like.

Bourbons are very high in vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.

Pinhook’s high-proof Bourbon won Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, while the Straight Rye Whiskey won Double Gold the following year. In 2021, their Bourbon War Vertical Series 5 Year and the 2021 Flagship Bourbon won a Gold Medal each, with a Double Gold going to their Tiz Rye Time Vertical Series 5 Year. Pinhook is evidently doing something right!
Bourbon matures quicker than Scotch due to higher temperatures in American warehouses.
Heaven Hill is a well respected distillery, even amongst their competitors. After the fire of 1996, the local major distilleries Jim Beam and Brown Forman shared their stills with Heaven Hill while they rebuilt.
Sure, Kentucky gets all the press when it comes to Bourbon. And with good reason—nearly 95% of it is produced there. But Bourbon can be made anywhere as long as it's within the United States. Just ask states with budding distilleries like Illinois and New York.
