A well-aged premium Rum from Barbados.

Ever heard of the Crop Over festival? It’s a big thing in Barbados: it dates back to 1687 and celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest. The whole island comes together to express the gratitude for the fruits of the harvest. There’s music, dancing, calypso, colorful celebrations, you name it. And there's the festival’s grand finale: the Grand Kadooment, which translates to “a big occasion, filled with joy and vigour”. This is the part where the best workers are crowned King and Queen of the crop. The Grand Kadoo range celebrates the island’s colorful culture. Produced at a family-owned distillery, the 4th generation of Rum makers crafts and ages their unique premium Rums in the Bajan heat, far away from the hustle and bustle.

Grand Kadoo 8 Year Old Caribbean Rum is a blend of pot and column still Rums that were tropically aged for at least 8 years in American oak ex-Whiskey barrels. The heat helps get the most out of aging, which means it would actually take much longer to get the same results somewhere colder. The results in question? Beautiful aromas of burnt orange, toffee pudding and cinnamon that melt into flavors of anise, bitter orange peel, coffee and dark chocolate with a bitter coco, walnut, cinnamon and sea salt finish. Sip this high-end Rum neat or make tropical cocktails for your most demanding guests.

You might find Rum masquerading itself under other nom de plumes, like Ron, Rom and Rhum.
Rum is why we measure alcohol proof. To make sure Rum wasn’t watered down, it had to be ‘proven’ by soaking gunpowder with it. If it was ‘overproof’ (higher than 57.15 % vol.), then the gunpowder would ignite, but if it wouldn’t, it was ‘underproof.’
Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
Rum is a sugar cane based spirit, primarily made in the Caribbean and Latin America, but you can really find Rum in many corners of the world.
A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. The most popular suggestions are Rum (the Romani word for 'potent'), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), and Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
If the center of our galaxy had a signature scent, it would be Rum. Yup, astronomers studying a giant cloud in the Milky Way found a substance called ethyl formate, a chemical that smells suspiciously like Rum.
