C'est la Marc!
The Champagne industry was in turmoil in 1911. The producers were struggling so much even that they poured the wine that wasn't sold into ditches. What a waste! Then, a man, Jean Goyard saw he needed to make better use of local resources and the preservation of the local ecosystem. He began his enterprise with two distilling machines which he towed from farm to farm making Marc (Pomace) from the leftovers the winemakers left to rot.
After a while he became quite adept and started offering his services to more and more wine growers and merchants around the locale. Settling in Champagne, today his premises are situated in Mareuil sur Ay. The business has modernised through the century and is now ran by Jean Mary Keene, the founder's grandson.
The Goyard Vieux Marc de Champagne is made from residues of grapes sourced exclusively from the Champagne region in France. The Marc itself is aged in oak barrels and has a beautiful amber color with an exceptional character, apparent in every sip you take.
