A new version of a Glenmorangie Single Malt classic worth the dram.
Located near Tain on the east coast of the northern Highlands, the Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 when the Matheson brothers converted the Morangie farm into a distillery by the sea. At a full twenty-six feet in height, the stills are the tallest in Scotland — ensuring that only the lightest vapors make it to the top and resulting in a smooth, fresh, and elegant range of fine Single Malt Whiskies. Now owned by LVMH, Glenmorangie is THE best selling Single Malt Whisky in Scotland and the rest of the UK, and one of our personal favorites.
We can’t help it… we have a real soft spot in our heart for Glenmorangie. And their Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 has been one of our favorites for years. But now they have Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14, and we're telling you that we're flat-out excited. Like all of their wood finished Spirits, it starts as classic Glenmorangie Single Malt aged for a full decade in ex-Bourbon casks. Then it is transferred to first-fill Ruby Port casks for four more years. And here’s where we're torn… We want to give this dram our highest recommendation, but the less you buy the more there is for us (yes, it’s THAT good).
Smartass corner: A lot of distilleries "talk" a good game about special water. But Glenmorangie is the real deal. Every drop used to make their Spirit comes from a nearby limestone aquifer — the famous Tarlogie Spring.
What does Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year Old taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year Old and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.
So rich and velvety good. Very easy to drink. Just enough sweetness with a little smoky hitch to it to remind you what you’re drinking.
James,
My favorite scotch I’ve tried yet. The blend of the chocolate and sweet finish is amazing.
Joe,
Citrus, old fashioned type feel. Burn. Great for $
Russ,
One of my favorites. Light on the pallet.
Susan,
Smokey
aaron,
The port finish on this Scotch is fantastic! You can really taste the sweet red wine, which is balanced with vanilla and caramel.
guest,
Smooth and easy drinking.
John,
This is a favorite of mine. Smooth with a slight peat finish and sweet undertones.
RON,
Very good, slight peat in the finish, not as good as the Balvenie
David,
Great port sweetness.
Matthew,
The warmth of Quinta Ruban increases from the 1st breath to reflection at a methodical pitch without restriction. None better to match the precious time by a fire with friends.
Michiel,
You can smell the port wine, it shows in the color of the whisky as well. There is some sweetness, it’s fruity and honey. Nice and warm, goes great with some chocolate.
Christopher,
Smooth scotch for a great price
Nathan,
The taste starts with chocolate notes followed quickly by the presence of the oak bourbon barrel. There are some sweeter fruit flavors that follow after. The drink starts smooth with a good amount of nuance but manages to finish with a sharp bite that reminds me of a cold autumn evening.
Zhe,
Good scotch, I liked the little bitterness on the edge of the tongue reminded me like a black coffee’s bitterness
Patrick,
Without a doubt my favorite "everyday, year round" whisky. Flavors are complex, but very smooth. Not too smoky, not too peaty, and just a touch of sweetness from the Port barrels.
William,
Glowing and gorgeous. You'll want to make this one last!
Ben,
Each sip made me feel like I was one with the whisky. The smell is welcoming, not agressive.
Kris,
Leather, apple, dried cherries and werther's original caramel candies on the nose. The color is a beautiful reddish gold. It's got a great mouthfeel, smooth and a little thick. Chocolaty and a hint of smoke with warmth all the way down. I think Nectar D'or is still my favorite of theirs but this is a very close second.
Oskari,
When you sip this whisky it fills your mouth with all these complex flavours, yet it is smooth and surprising at the same time. On the nose it is like the finest red wine.
Mark,
This is an excellent scotch form the money. Sweet with just a little bit of smoke.
guest,
I have this right now and have enjoyed every gkass! I shared it with my step son ans brother and they were both very impressed by the smooth taste and aromas it displayed. I was able to detect the Chocolate finish through its entirety and I will purchase another as a gift to my brothers this Christmas!
Amelia,
Nice and smooth with a sweet port finish
Randy,
This is my favorite right now...
Vivek,
I think the Quinta Ruban 12 is better but this is very solid
Josh,
Just an incredible whisky. Complex nose with just as complex taste. Long finish and a wonderful sipping whisky. One of my new favorites for sure.
Todd,
I’ve had this bottle twice before and loved it. This one had a stronger, smokier flavor embedded in the taste. I didn’t expect that much variation. Subtracting two stars.
guest,
Honestly, the Quinta 14 is probably one of the best scotches I have ever had. Had a sample through Glenmorangies tasting set (makes for a great gift). Nose-Can definitely tell this batch has been aged in well notes of bourbon and rye wood vanilla cake Palate- milk chocolate more of those bourbon notes dark fruits/raisin Finish- medium long more wood notes and chocolate Truly a masterful blend 9.1/10
Josh,
Delicious flavor with just enough of a kick to remind you you're drinking scotch. Very curious vanilla and burnt butterscotch aftertaste that frankly makes the slightly higher alcohol content all but unnoticeable.
Leo,
This scotch is not for the faint of heart. An experienced drinker, I was expecting a bit more mellow tone considering it’s age. Not something to bring out to get where you want to be in a hurry. I drank near first and then had to add water and a bit of ice to bring it to my palette. If you like a peaty start, middle, and finish I would give it a try.
Christian,
If you found a Glenmorangie that was finished in port casks peaty, I would question what as in the bottle to begin with.
Glenn,
A nice oak nose. Sweet and oak initial. Followed by a very smooth finish. Well done as always Glenmorangie
Jeremy,
The port finish on this really smooths it out and gives it that lovely sweetness on the end. Not too complex, but very flavorful and one to enjoy. Wasn't disappointed, but wasn't blown away. Very good
Harlan,
This is a good whisky just not to my taste. I much prefer the standard 10 year old glenmorangie.
Kyle,
If I may appropriate from our Scottish kin, this is an exquisite dram! I liked the Glenmorangie 10, but this just takes it to a new level of complexity. The vanilla and spice of the 10 is present, but there's dark fruit notes and rich spice and fortified wine at the finish.
guest,
Super smooth with a nice long finish and hint of spice, extremely complex flavors in this one, top 3 for me
Eric,
This is the scotch that got me to love scotch. It's bold and sweet, as most port casks are. But to balance out some lighter and gentler bottles, I usually keep this on hand.
Katherine,
A really nice scotch. Hard to argue with a 14 yr this price point.
Jeffrey,
The 14 yr old is not nearly as good as the 12. In my opinion they ruined the Quinta Ruban with its new recipe. Finish is not as good and it has more of an alcohol flavor.
Nathaniel,
Really a gorgeous scotch. Perfect for a special occasion or even a night cap.
Matt,
Very nice with a flavor that includes a surprise twist. Starts out rich with hints of sweet, then dries out and finishes with more mellow and long notes.
guest,
Good, not great
Kent,
Probably my favorite Glenmorangie. I keep going back to this bottle for more!
