August 2021 gave us another magic bottle from Glenmorangie.

In the 1730s, a brewery was built in the Scottish Highlands, namely on the Morangie Farm, and a hundred years later, it was refurbished into a distillery we all know and love: Glenmorangie. Their Spirits are not created equal - they are raised as aristocrats. The water comes from the pristine spring of Tarlogie and the magic that happens is a result of teamwork of sixteen men, affectionately known as the Sixteen Men of Tain. These knights of Whisky distill the potion in the tallest stills in Scotland, creating a lighter and more refined Whisky.

Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Cognac Cask Finish Scotch Whisky graced us with its presence in August 2021. Dr Bill Lumsden is a rock star who oversees Whisky creation at this iconic distillery and for this release, the Whisky wizard experimented with Cognac casks. The recipe went something like this: matured in ex-Bourbon casks for at least 8 years and finished in Cognac casks for 4 extra years. Clocking in at 92 proof, this full-bodied dram demonstrates incredible depth and unique flavors of orange oil, digestive biscuits, ginger, and almond oil.

Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
