A Single Malt pleasure to the eye, nose, and palate.
George Smith was running an illegal still on the estate of the Duke of Gordon in the wee early 1800’s — who he supplied with the occasional dram. The Duke sponsored legislation in 1823 that made whiskey distilling legal in the UK, it just so happens that George Smith was the first one granted a license. Today Glenlivet is one of the “Big Three” Single Malt producers. Their Whiskies are Speyside and the water for the mash comes famously from “Josie’s Well” nearby. Glenlivet produces a wide variety of Single Malt agings and cask combinations, with the remaining spirit an indispensable component in some of the most famous blends.
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old First Fill is normally a Travel Retail exclusive — meaning that you could previously only buy it in airports and on cruise ships. So it’s not surprising that die-hard Glenlivet fans haven’t tasted it yet. What sets the 12 yo “First Fill” apart is that — although it’s common to reuse casks many times — all of the Whisky has been aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. It makes the flavors more intense. Treating the masterful Glenlivet Single Malt this way results in a truly impressive aroma and texture for a complete Single Malt experience.
