Member Reviews and Ratings of Glenfiddich IPA Experiment
Russ,
Not a good experiment.
Kyle,
This is a great all rounder and a tremendous value for the money. Don’t let the IPA cask aging scare you away if you are not an IPA drinker. It picks up some interesting notes but it is far from hoppy or flowery.
Nicholas,
Really enjoyed this unique expression.
guest,
"Leichte Nase und Anfangsgeschmack, nachgelagerter Brand und IPA Hopfen Geschmack
Nachgeschmack SEHR bitter & IPA-lastig
Wien, 5/18"
Andrew,
Not at all a good experiment. Too beery, sits sad and mostly undrunk in my cabinet.
Adam,
Spicy bite, then smooth finish. Cool experiment.
Nick,
Love it. Best value scotch. The hint of IPA. Such a unique well balanced scotch
Lars,
With tones of sweet chocolate, honey and baked apples you can tell the hoppyness inspired from most India Pale Ales. It offers a very sweet, pleasant and aromatic flavor that might connect with many beer lovers specially does keen to drinking IPAs. Some drawbacks is the hoppyness to an IPA is very subtle and hard to notice and the flavor at some it turns discrete. lacking force.
guest,
Nice whiskey, tasted a little of the IPA on it, but not enough to make it a future favourite
Wilbert,
It was interesting, could def catch the IPA taste. It’s worth a try but overall not impressive.
Richard,
I wasn't sure about this scotch. I received it as a gift from my dad. I was surprised by the nose, you do get the floral hints from the hops. I'm not a huge IPA guy, I'll drink them but I don't like the hop flavor to be overpowering (I find many IPA's to be overpowering with hops). The hops are very subtle and welcomed in this scotch. It compliments the flavor and does not dominate. You still get all the typical characteristics of Glenfiddich with some added complexity from the IPA barrels.
Travis,
Sweet, very rich with strong spice notes. I feel like there might be something missing though. Overall a good Scotch!
Elizabeth,
Smooth, moderate hop flavor. Easy scotch to drink.
William,
great beer finish
guest,
Strong
Rex,
Not bad. It’s a decent whiskey. Was hoping more of the IPA flavor would come through. I was hoping it would be similar to the Boston Harbor Ella IPL but it’s not nearly as good.
Stefan,
A little bit too Hoppy for me. Still a great Scotch.
James,
Loved this, great flavour combination with the hops coming through and really easy drinking
guest,
Nice. Smooth
Eduardo,
Smooth and sweet at nose, toasted oak comes at first, then, a bit of orange zest, vanilla and some herbal notes.
Stefanie,
Extremely smooth. Reminds me of an apple orchard mixed with beer. Bought as a Father's Day gift and my dad loves it.
guest,
Work taster
Thomas,
This one gets a solid , "meh" from me. A very drinkable scotch but my socks are still on.
guest,
Very tasty, the aftertaste of hops was a strange but delightful addition to an already delicious Speyside.
KRISHNARAJ,
Smooth taste with a nice oak wood finish. A little up front spice to get the taste buds tingling
William,
You can smell the IPA but can't taste. It's a little bitter.
I bought this for a father's day gift so I will assume he liked it.
Trevor,
Very sweet Scotch. Missing the bitterness of the IPA in it, but overall a solid pour.
Sei-IS,
The Nose is very fruity and green apples. This apples and fruit follows through on the medium Finish. Cinnamon is a key attribute of the taste that slowly edges away towards the finish of the fruit
guest,
Excellent
Alex,
I never thought I’d describe a whisky as hoppy, but this one is exactly that! Apple and citrus follow closely behind in flavor and leave you with the finish of a delightfully different malt
Sergiu,
Feels very rough
Charles,
Light with flavors great collaboration
Michelle,
Not usually a fan of scotches, but this one was surprisingly smooth. Did not have the bitter bite that I generally associate with scotch whisky. I would purchase this one.
guest,
Nice and full of citrus
Renee,
More complex than other glenfidditch
Kenneth,
Glenfiddich is the scotch I grew up on and feel now that it has a slight "harsh" aftertaste (rate 7), the Glenfiddich IPA is smoother and a delight to drink, remember, drinking scotch is a conversation whisky to be savored and enjoyed with friends!! Another Glenfiddich in the blue label aged 14 years in "bourbon barrel reserve" I would rate a 9 stars. I am still waiting to taste a 10, confident I will fine one. Scotch (single malt) is the only civilized whisky. The rest of man made spirits are just "fun" to enjoy.
John,
Smooth, can taste hints of the hops in the IPA cask. I enjoyed it
Niels,
Expected more of the barrel. Just not a fan.
ABIGAIL,
It was fine. I guess I was a little disappointed in the complexity and over all profile. I don’t regret drinking it but definitely won’t be getting it again.
guest,
Citrus and bright. Not very complex
Gregory,
Ok
Michael,
Bought this as a gift to a beer drinking couple. I'll never know..... :)
Trevor,
Such a smooth and tasty dram. Not exactly what I like to drink but certainly delicious.
AJ,
Finally, one in the box that was worth the trip for. Sweet, smooth, and a mellow finish.
Anton,
Great whiskey!
Jesse,
Pleasant as any Glenfiddich, but no detectable hops or IPA taste or aroma. Just because one CAN do something doesn't mean one SHOULD do it.
guest,
My partner & I agree that this is one of the best whiskies we've ever tasted, and is incredibly more-ish. £70 seems expensive, though, as we've had 3 bottles so far and never paid more than £50...
guest,
No IPA flavor at all
guest,
Absolutely vile.
Jeffrey,
Taste the IPA beer, sherry and toasted taste. Very smooth
Nejc,
As a craft beer lover expected more IPA taste.
Linda,
Easy to drink, creamy
Kevin,
Good but I did not taste much of the cask finish
Joshua,
This one was okay, not sure what I was expecting though. It went down easy enough and I noticed the hops along with the oak.
Shawn,
When I saw this at the store I took a chance on it. In am so glad I did. Super to my local pub gather a few of my scotch drinkers and said let's charless together.
Next thing you know we're having a scotch tasting based around this bottle.
Neat or with a rock you will not go wrong with this bottle.
Kristopher,
I really enjoy the subtle notes of hops. I was hoping for a bit more citrus, but this is quite nice.
Stephen,
Nice balance, mild beer flavor. If you like beer and IPA’s you will like this.
Larry,
Very underwhelming. Felt like something was missing with very little flavor.
Duncan,
Balanced
Mikel,
Very interesting experiment definitely can taste the hint of IPA but still slightly sweet and peaty. Extraordinary with a splash of Laphroaig quarter cask in a glass on the rocks.
Chancy,
Goodness in a bottle.
Nicki,
The taste was fine but I was expecting more IPA .
Michael,
You don't expect much from this - certainly not if you are a scotch purist, but the flavor is surprisingly well married. It is by no means the best whiskey, but it is very much unique and a conversation piece. The light and smooth texture make this the perfect porch sipping summer dram.
Maggie,
It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t my favorite of the tasting box
Craig,
I enjoyed the unique taste of this. I found it to be an interestingly complex combination of zest & oak! I think this was my favorite of the three samples.
Natalie,
I could drink this straight. The flavor was good
Matt,
Meh, not impressed. Jameson’s IPA Caskmates is much better.
Haley,
Okay...That’s really about all I could say. Not the best I’ve had but wouldn’t kick it out of bed either.
Katherine,
I had a hard time finding the hops on this one, but I drink IPAs. My husband, who can't stand beer, picked out the hops immediately, so this one may be quite subjective.
Steven,
Not a big scotch guy but got this in a taster box... awesome! The beer casks gives it some sweeter notes that bring it a step closer to bourbon but while still being definitively scotch. Being a bourbon guy I love those sweet notes. This is a scotch I think I will buy a bottle of and keep on hand.
guest,
This is a must try.
Matthew,
Loved it. When it comes to beer I prefer an IPA over anything else. When it comes to scotch I prefer peaty and smokey. This was neither, but well blended and sooo enjoyable. Better with a few drops of water in my opinion.
Bryant,
Solid overall, but nothing revolutionary. They played pretty safe with the beer elements and it’s well-balanced. Wouldn’t be worth the premium IMO.
Anne,
Not Smokey but some peat. A little blah
Dinesh,
Delicious
Barco,
Smooth. Barely noticeable hints of IPA. Good stuff.
Gary,
Beautiful balance of hops and peat, smooth and drinkable over ice
Jeremy,
A unique and tasty scotch with a mild hoppy finish.
Bob,
Light and crisp with a great finish.
Chris,
Ok. You can taste the beer, but I'm not a big fan of beer.
guest,
Tried because I like IPA, stayed because the scotch was good
Deja,
Smooth but I don't get any "beer" or "hops."
Derek,
Very smooth
John,
Nose: malt, oak, hops, vanilla, lemon zest unfolds into blood orange
Mouth: oily, oak, mild spice like nutmeg, hops, chocolate, heavy very prominent oak, bourbon like heat, fire roasted red peppers like peppers grilled on the BBQ on a warm summer day.
Finish: long and warm, smooth, sweet red peppers, lingering Szechuan pepper and citrus hops
Final notes: chocolate covered roasted red peppers with a hint of lemon zest.
guest,
Sweet sticky first taste, almost bourbon like. It took a few sips for the hints of nutmeg, honey and lemon to make themselves known. The classic glenfiddich taste comes through, but no hops for me. Nonetheless a tasty drink that goes down very easily! I look forward to accompanying a light ale with it.
