Since William Grant built the Glenfiddich Distillery more than 100 years ago, there have been 18 direct descendants who have worked in the company building the reputation and presence around the world. Five generations later, the company is still owned and managed by the family.
 
To celebrate this unique effort, Glenfiddich created a special 18 year old - one year for each member of the family who have contributed to its remarkable success. This bottling, circa 1992 is no longer available.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
Continuous mashing is firstly used by Glenfiddich in the Whisky market.
