Hardcore work dedication resulting in a worthy core range addition.

Purchased, sold, mothballed, and opened again four times — it's been a pretty rocky ride for the 1967-opened The GlenAllachie Distillery. But it was always meant to be: in 2017 Master Distiller Billy Walker and partners merged this under-utilized distiller germ with a few other Whisky brands to form The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited. With a new wind in their sails, Walker and Co. dished out a new core range of four Single Malt Whiskies in the Speyside style.

A 2019 addition to the GlenAllachie core range, this 15 Year Old Single Malt has been worked on and perfected by the Master Distiller Billy Walker since day one. That's what we call dedication! The Whisky was treated to a finishing period in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry puncheons and hogsheads. To retain this rich, full flavor, it was bottled at Cask Strength of 46% ABV (90 Proof). Praised as the jewel in their crown, Walker described this expression as having an "exceptional balance of the distillery’s spirit and the influence of the Sherry casks used during maturation." We couldn't agree more.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
Whisky distilling goes way back to 1494 when the first recorded batch was made by a posse of monks who acquired about 60 gallons of barley and decided to turn it into "aqua vitae". They created the first 1,500 bottles of Scotch in History.
Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
