The makers of Gin Mare, Mark and Manuel Giro, come from a famous Spanish distilling family; the Giro Ribot family has been dealing in Wine and Spirits since1835. However, the brothers wanted to create something new, inspired by the Mediterranean.
And so, in 2007, Gin Mare was born. Using local botanicals, including arbequina olives, juniper berries grown on the family’s land, thyme, basil, rosemary and a lot of citrus, Gin Mare is a true taste of the Mediterranean.
Distilled at Destilerías Miquel Guansé, the citrus fruit (sweet oranges from Seville, bitter oranges from Valencia, lemons from Lleida) is macerated in neutral grain Spirit for an entire year before being distilled.
The other botanicals are macerated and distilled separately before they’re all blended together with more grain Spirit and water to create the final product. This Spanish Gin is growing to be somewhat of a cult icon – leading the way in the Spanish Gin-aissance.

The Chapel was previously located on the town’s beach where local fishermen would pray for a good catch and a safe journey before setting out to sea. In the 18th century after the town mayor declared the chapel detrimental to the beach, the monks relocated the chapel, brick-by-brick.

This Spanish distillery is located just outside of Barcelona, in Vilanova, a small fishing village that lies between Costa Brava and Costa Dorada. Housed inside of a picturesque chapel that was once a monk’s retreat, the distillery is owned by the Giro Ribot family, which has been in the Wine and Spirits business since 1835.
The family made its first debut into Gin distilling in 1940 when Manuel Giro Sr launched Gin MG.Gin Mare is currently one of Spain’s best selling Gins. Years later grandsons Mark and Manuel Jr wanted to continue the family tradition and crafted their own Gin, inspired by the Mediterranean climate, using locally sourced botanicals.
Gin Mare truly is quintessentially Mediterranean, in Spirit and in taste. The premium barley base is infused with traditional Gin botanicals, but also specialties of the Mediterranean - basil from Italy, thyme from Greece, rosemary from Turkey, citrus fruits from Spain, and their 'Liquid Gold': The ARBEQUINA OLIVE; the only olive in the World with its own Designation of Origin.
