Sure, 95% of Bourbon is made in Kentucky but there’s good juice beyond the borders of the Bluegrass State.
So while it’s a good thing to start your Bourbon journey in the South, eventually you should probably wander off the beaten track beyond the famous Kentucky Bourbon trail and into the craft Whiskey wilderness courtesy of Anytown, USA.
Here’s 3 non-Kentucky Bourbons we think you should take with you:
Hailing from the first distillery in New York State after Prohibition, Tuthilltown Spirits Hudson Baby Bourbon Whiskey (46% ABV) gets its name after the tiny, baby barrels that are used for aging. The small surface maximizes the contact with the liquid and delivers more character. Plenty of vanilla, sweet corn, caramel, and oak flavors to savor.
FEW Straight Bourbon Whiskey (46.5% ABV) comes from Evanston, Illinois. Aged in charred Minnesota Oak barrels, it’s a three-grain Bourbon with a lot of character. You can savor the three grains throughout and enjoy a maltedness that lasts from nose to finish.
From Sonoma County in sunny California, we’ve got Bib & Tucker 6 Year Old Small Batch Bourbon. Clocking in at 46% ABV, this one smells like oak, chocolate, and vanilla, while the smooth and spicy palate is all caramel, ginger, and cinnamon.
