A rare, sweet taste of a historic Speyside Single Malt.
Five Lions is an independent bottler of Scottish Whisky based in Germany. Like many of the other independents they specialize in procuring odd lots and even single barrels of product from major manufacturers and issuing limited releases that retain the character and individuality of the spirit and barrel. These limited releases change from year to year — once each is gone, that’s it. But finding a treasure in limited supply is a big part of the fun.
Even though it was founded in 1897 and produces 4.5 million liters per year, don’t be surprised if you have never heard of the Glentauchers Distillery. There is no visitor center and nearly every drop of product has been sipped up by major Scotch blends — including as a major component of Ballentine’s, Teacher’s, and Black & White. Single Malt bottlings from this quality shop are extremely rare, but they do happen. Now’s your chance.
Five Lions Glentauchers 13 YO 2002 is a classic Speyside aged thirteen years in premium ex-Bourbon casks with nothing artificial (as it should be) and bottled at near cask strength. It is sweet and grassy with a lovely, round balance.
