There is a new king in the Bacardi Empire of Rum… all hail the king.

Bacardi is still family owned — seven generations of the Bacardi family have run the company since it was founded on February 4th, 1862. They are the largest privately held Spirits company in the world. Headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, they are best known for their namesake White Puerto Rican Rum. But they are a worldwide producer of Spirits covering every major category with annual sales nearing US $5 billion.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the company, Bacardi set out to create a masterpiece line of ultra-premium Rums. Thus, they created the Facundo range of four special Rums — each distinct and unique.

Facundo Paraiso Rum is the oldest Rum Bacardi makes. They combed the warehouses across their Rum empire to collect the finest and oldest barrels. Some sources say that the Rums are up to twenty-three years old, other sources say that the Rum averages 23 years. But what matters here is that this is brilliantly-aged stuff married in new Limousin oak casks. It’s big and bold and different from any Bacardi you have ever had.

Smartass Corner:
The Facundo range of ultra-premium Rums from Bacardi is named after the original founder, Don Facundo Bacardi Massó.

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Facundo Paraiso XA Rum and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Next time you have a tipple of Rum you can say that you're tapping the Admiral. This intriguing phrase comes from the great Admiral Nelson who was killed in the battle of Trafalgar off of Spain. The story is that his body was preserved in Rum to be shipped back to England but, when the barrel arrived, some of the Rum was missing and said to have been siphoned off by some desperate or unknowing sailors. It's a great story but most likely false.
Mount Gay Rum is the oldest existing Rum company in the World dating back to 1705. This is also the year Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Britain’s Parliament.
You might find Rum masquerading itself under other nom de plumes, like Ron, Rom and Rhum.
Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. The most popular suggestions are Rum (the Romani word for 'potent'), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), and Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
Common Rum classifications: White, Golden or Amber, Dark, Spiced, Añejo and Age-Dated Rums.
