The Exceptional Grain
Samuel,
Very smooth with a fantastic aftertaste that sneaks up on you. Take your time when drinking this to experience the whole range of flavors.
The Exceptional Grain
Johan,
Very soft and subtle. Strong vanilla but spicy enough to not be bland. Very pleasantly surprised.
The Exceptional Blend
Chris,
Smooth start with caramel notes. Second sip brought out more floral and sherry. Good finish.
The Exceptional Malt
Chris,
Decent malt whiskey with strong oak and sherry. Finish is shorter than I expected. Hit the honey after a few drops of water added.
The Exceptional Grain
Chris,
Jumps out on first sip but mellows after. Strong vanilla with mild orange peel. A touch of water made it softer with more chocolate.
The Exceptional Grain
Joseph,
Not bad. Slight after taste
The Exceptional Blend
Robert,
Little harsh
The Exceptional Blend
Bill,
Enjoyable from first small and taste. Caramel, vanilla, fruit. Round and lingering.
The Exceptional Malt
Bill,
Softer than the grain. Shuttle but pleasant nose. Enjoyable drink but not rememberable.
The Exceptional Grain
Bill,
Very sharp first sip. More vanilla appeared after that. Added a splash of water and it softened with bright vanilla and warm round tones.
The Exceptional Grain
Rory,
The first sip was harsh... nearly vodka-like. A small splash of filtered, room temperature did a world of good. The difference was astounding as this scotch transformed into a warm, inviting drink. Lots of orange and chocolate and a very pleasant vanilla finish. I'd gladly have another dram. I rarely, if ever, drink my scotch anything but neat. This may challenge me to revisit some old favorites to see what a splash will do for them.
The Exceptional Grain
Scott,
great
The Exceptional Malt
Tim,
Pleasant on the nose (apricots come to mind), lots of oak and not much else on the palate. Disappointing. I wanted to know more about what this thing actually is and started reading the details when I found this: "Blended Single Malt". Not to be a stickler for terminology, but there's no such thing as a blended single malt. The description in "About" section didn't help much either when it listed Speyside among the list of brands (it's a region, not a brand) while dropping the 30 year old Macallan detail. Let me guess how much 30 yo Macallan is in this blend, 1 eye dropper?
The Exceptional Grain
Frederick,
I love this whiskey, beautiful vanilla, smooth taste.
The Exceptional Blend
David,
Good caramel and floral on the nose. Smooth with nice finish.
The Exceptional Grain
David,
Nice and light. Smooth taste with vanilla finish.
The Exceptional Malt
David,
Smooth, but too much oak/wood flavor for our preference.
The Exceptional Blend

The Exceptional Malt

Smoothest of the 3, exactly what I’m looking for in a good Scotch.

Very smooth with great flavor.
The Exceptional Grain
Benjamin,
A very interesting scotch, light and sweet, but more like a bourbon than a Speyside. Nose - honey, vanilla and caramel, with some musty notes that are typical in scotch. Taste - light sweet honey, some dark fruit and a bit of orange zest. Finish - silky and sweet, fades fairly quickly.
The Exceptional Blend
Benjamin,
An interesting one, some classic dark sugar flavors but with some fruit on the backend. Nose - caramel, bright fruit and grain. Taste - starts with light caramel and ends with an unexpected fruit note, like strawberries and flowers. Finish - pleasant floral finish with no burn at all.
The Exceptional Malt
Benjamin,
Very oak forward, not my favorite, especially for the price point. Nose - an oak bomb in your face, with a bit of malty grain. Taste - strong oak spice at the beginning, a bit of sweet notes in the background. Finish - oak spice burns for a bit, and you get some more bitter notes at the end.
The Exceptional Grain
Jason,
Seriously the best Whisky.
The Exceptional Blend
Mark,
hints of carmel and strawbeery over powered by rose. Not enjoyable
The Exceptional Grain
Mark,
Hints of vanilla and port, chocolate, nutty finish
The Exceptional Malt
Mark,
Light flavor, sweet from honey with slight oak and beer hints.
The Exceptional Blend
Joe,
The is wonderfully complex! Light notes of smoke and berry. I’ll add this to my list to keep on hand.
The Exceptional Malt
Lori,
Smokey-oak. Flat. Easy to drink, but not much flavor.
The Exceptional Grain
Lori,
Smooth. Easy to drink. Nice chocolate note after a few seconds.
The Exceptional Blend
Lori,
Smooth. Easy to drink. Fruit.
The Exceptional Blend
Dr,
Smooth and very drinkable with no ice or water
The Exceptional Malt
Richard,
This was definitely the heaviest of the 3 choices in the Exceptional tasting box. Nice strong finish.
The Exceptional Blend
Richard,
The Blend was my favorite of amongst the Grain, and Malt tasting box. Enjoyed the softer finish compared to the Malt
The Exceptional Grain
Richard,
Good middle choice between the Malt and the Blend, could definitely pick up the vanilla
The Exceptional Grain
Dan,
Very nice.
The Exceptional Grain
Rich,
I am a complete nube at this, referring to flavor spiral, I can pick out the vanilla, get the nutty, don’t understand the beer part. Smoother finish as I went through the tasting.
The Exceptional Grain
Nakeva,
Well done on blending sweet and grain. Couldn't decide what I was tasting but the after flow was nice.
The Exceptional Malt
Nakeva,
Nice mix of smoothness and flavor. The oak wasn't overbearing and the honey shined through with perfection.
The Exceptional Blend
Nakeva,
Initial taste is smooth but then becomes to smoky/peat. Since it doesn't show in the flavor profile, wasn't expecting it and after taste was unbearable. Has potential but not my favorite.
The Exceptional Malt
Luane,
Smooth
The Exceptional Blend
Richard,
I smell mild peat and taste mild smoke, although this is not in the flavor spiral for this scotch. I think it is delicious, this is probably the best peaty tasting scotch I have had. I prefer the sweeter and more smooth and subtle Exceptional Grain but this is delicious and it would be great as a peaty scotch in my home bar.
The Exceptional Malt
Richard,
Spicier than the grain, a very similar profile. Again I can see the beer taste, but I get more spice combating with sweet. I little bit of a bite. Overall very good and I wouldn't mind having in my bar, but would probably take the grain over this one.
The Exceptional Grain
Richard,
Smooth, buttery, sweet, delicious, in-offensive. Flavor wheel says, beer, I guess I can see that, I definitely get vanilla, and can see where milk and chocolate come from. Has orange and apple notes as well. A great dram, I would buy a bottle for the home bar for sure.
